Hello Members!
About a year ago, I posted about finishing my basement in which I was able to add an "office" to the plan. This would primarily serve as a rob building/hobby room. I'm at the point now where once I get trim pieces on the walls, I can start the rod-building-focused additions! Mainly, the bench and storage. To those that gave me advice, I've got 50% more lights in the

Hi,
Is any one who has a Pac Bay / Alps power wrapper able to tell me the height under the thread carriage track?
I'm after how high the bottom of thread carriage track sits off the table or bench.
Cheers,
Paul Farrell

After now using the Hitena nylon thread for a couple of months, here are my observations. My comparisons are with my old standby Gudebrod.
1.) It does stretch more,
2.) It is slightly thinner.
3.)It is much more opaque, not nearly as translucent.
This latter characteristic, can be good or bad, depending upon the look you want to achieve. This is especially apparent on a dark blank.

Finally decided to remodel/improve my rod building room. Currently my bench is 36" high. I guess my question is what do you find as an optimum height?

Well, after ironing out some rod blank issues with a supplier, I was able to start my first complete build this past week. I wish I was able to say I was able to complete the entire build, but I'm waiting on 2 running guides, one of which I'll need to complete the rod, that were back ordered from my initial components order. Happily, they were shipped late this past week, and I should have them i

I got lazy this week building a fly rod for my own use, so I reamed out an egg sinker for tension, dropped it over the neck of a fly-tying bobbin, popped a small spool of "D" thread in the bobbin, took three turns of thread around one of the bobbin's legs to maintain tension, threaded the bobbin, and started winding. The bobbin just hung beneath the blank while I rotated it. I found it

Well we kind of leaped forward once we got the great input here and things are coming together nicely. The three key components of the room are just about complete.
Here is the photo table with the seamless background (almost) installed. I have already tested this and it is terrific to be working at the proper height and have a nice gradient background automatically every time I release the sh

I am starting to frame the rod building table. I prefer to sit. What height do you find most comfortable? I realize this varies depending on how tall you are so it might be better to reference a body part, i.e. is the blank collarbone height, armpit height, sternum height, nipple height or naval height? Or an inch or two above or below one of these reference points?

Wondering if anyone that has bought the new raised bed Renzetti lathe can comment on what they like or don't like about it. Thanks. Considering upgrading from an older original unit.

10. Workbench Height
Ok...seriously thinking about starting to finish out my work room.
Some of you may remember I asked a couple months back about bench depth as my room is long (20+' long), but extremely narrow (3'3" wall-to-wall). I'm pretty sure I'm going to mount 12" deep boards on L-brackets to gain as much space as I am able. Hopefully my PacBay wrapper will mount on it fine...I'll have to wait

I'm just getting started at this, so need a table for winding, etc. I was going to use an 8' piece of laminate countertop that you can pick up at Lowe's, etc. My intention is to use a couple of file cabinets, or Walmart sells these black modular cubes that are 15x15x15 with either two drawers, open on one side, or divided with a shelf. Most two drawer file cabinets are around 25-26" high.

I've noticed that after a few hours spent sitting at my work area while wrapping guides and other tasks involved in rod building, that my body can get tired and sore. Neck and back get strained from leaning over the work area, legs cramp from sitting in one position to long. I'm going to redo the rod room sometime this summer. I've read where standing is easier on the body and actually can be

14. Wrapping bench
I'm about to build myself a bigger wrapping bench and the top I was going to paint since it will be plywood. I know its mostly a matter of personal preference but I was wondering what the mostly likely best color would be to paint the top. Originally I was thinking white but now I'm wondering if that may cause problems with glare from the lighting overtop bouncing back and making it hard to see w

I was injured in an automobile accident and do not have full range of motion (less than 10%) in my right foot. (plates, pins, screws, and a partial fusion. On X-Ray it looks like a hardware store...nice huh?) Also, during the same accident, my left femur was shattered (more plates, pins, screws, etc. and more hardware store pictures.) I still do pretty much anything I want, within reason, I just

Biulding a new wrapper and have the option of 4 1/2" or 6" inches from base. Some times I get a kink in my upper back when holding my arms up for a while on my old jig. What is comfortable for most of you?

Thought I was getting the hang of this...until...I try wrapping those little no. 6 guides near the tip portion of the rod. My blank has a 5 tip and I keep losing tension and the wraps look terrible. I even had trouble with the underwraps without the guides. Any tips. how am I supposed to hold that small foot on the rod and wrap with such a thin rod area that keeps bouncing around ? So far I did t

I got the CDs in today. I will begin boxing and shipping them on Friday. Most of you who have ordered them should have them early next week.
I had left out a few of the article topics but have added them below. It's a very lengthy list and the best Special Edition CD to date, in my opinion.

The final 2009 CD in the RodMaker Special Edition Series will be ready in the coming we

I'm wanting to build a power wrapper since I can't afford to dish out the $300 or so for one. I've searched on here a bit and I haven't been able to find any plans for building your own. Does anyone have plans for one that they would want to share? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

20. Table height
I'm in the process of refinishing the shop and was also going to give the table I have set-up for rodbuilding an overhaul. I was wondering what table height are some of you taller guys most comfortable with? I', 6' 2" tall if that helps any. Thanks in advance.

To avoid moving my station down the rod wrapping bench, I move the rod past my fixed wrapping station.
I have a 10 fot long power wrapper that I built.
My wrapping bench is actually 4 feet wide.
Then, I have another 4 foot long bench on each side, that has a 4 inch gap between the tables.
In the gaps, I have placed a lumber roller support from Home depot. This is a foldable roller support

I have posted this twice now and for some reason it disapears. I am thinking maybe it is because my user name was not my whole name, I thought I just needed a signature. Its fixed now though, so if I am doing something else wrong, please let me know what it is.

OK, this is probably going to sound like a stupid question, but here it goes:
I purchased an American Tackle Power Wrapper a couple of months ago and I have just recent,y found time to begin using it. Anyhow, my question is, what is the best way to setup this machine? I have a very limited work space which consists of a couple tables at the moment. I really don't have the room to setup a whole n

Howdy. This is my first post. First let me get the brown nose part out of the way. This is a great forum with an amazing wealth of information. I've learn quite a bit just hanging around and reading.
I'm new (never wrapped a rod-ever) to rod wrapping and I'm getting a little disappointed at the quality and feel of the rods I have bought off the shelf. I've determined that the only way to allevia
