I buy cheap rods Walmart cabelas etc.. and practice. For example I did a danco surf rod. $20. Bass pro For a while I hated it... i wanted to work clean new you know. But for the cost and all the rods I had I just started to redo them I've got good at taking these things apart. I don't mind the free handle and guides.. and if I do I replace them to and it's still allot cheaper.

I'm having a problem on a rod I recently built and can't figure out why it keeps happening. The butt guide finish keeps cracking and the guide comes loose. I have redone it 3 times waited at least 7 days for the finish to cure and still. This is the only guide on the 10ft rod that does it. Super confused. I’m measuring my reel spool diameter at 47 mm x 27 = 1,269mm. That converts to 49.9 inches. My rod I’m building on is 6’ in length so with those numbers I’m roughly left with 10” of rod for running guides (that’s a rough measurement. It may be an inch or two more or less.) Sorry if I missed this in the search but quick question I need the groups wisdom on - will I be ok to use 3.5 micros using 8-10 braid to 8-10 flouro? Hi. I was just wondering when or if torzite becomes a desirable material for guides? I’m fishing with 50lb braid and fighting lake sturgeons (anywhere from 2-5, maybe 6ft). What methodology do you use, if any at all? I usually go with what the manufacturer specifies for the blank and what's on the decal. I've found this to be useful as a starting point, and typically put the decal on the rod as a reference point for the maker, model number, etc. However, on SOME rods, I scratch my head about the lower and upper ends of the ratings listed on the decals. What works
