About a month ago, I completed a spinning build using the K-R Concept, 3+1 guide specification, for NFC's SJ 703 X-Ray (C602) blank. I have fished it extensively since then, and wanted to share my experiences and thought process building and fishing this guide specification with this rod. Seems to me, not much has been written about the 3+1 specification, especially with the 16H guide group, and

Hello, guys! I'm reading a lot about the new Fuji KR Concept for guide placing ... And now I'm thinking what is the alternative for that kind of guide placing? How have people chosen and placed the guides on rods before that? Because if I go to our local tackle shop I can't see any rods being done by Fuji KR Concept. Why not? Regards!

Good afternoon gents, I am new to the site, and 6 months new to rod building. I recently built 4 KR concept 7 foot and 8 foot rods to use with both inshore and local freshwater lakes. I have done a ton of reading on the KR concept and after building and casting them recently all I can say is WOW!, what a difference. I am wanting to make 10 foot surf rod 2 piece. I entered some numbers on the

I buy cheap rods Walmart cabelas etc.. and practice. For example I did a danco surf rod. $20. Bass pro For a while I hated it... i wanted to work clean new you know. But for the cost and all the rods I had I just started to redo them I've got good at taking these things apart. I don't mind the free handle and guides.. and if I do I replace them to and it's still allot cheaper.

Hi I'm doing research on how to build my first surf rod and my question is based on the article on Anglers Resource website titled "Building the KR Concept Spinning Rod" So I decided to go with the 11' Black Hole East Coast 2-6oz lure rated blank and build it according to the KR concept. The article suggests some guidelines like using the KL25H stripper if using lines greater 20lb

Thinking about doing a build for pier fishing Boynton beach and Juno piers and also using at a surf caster. Already have an 11 ft emcast that i purchased down there last year that is fairly light. Am considering something a little heavier somewhere in the 8–10 ft range for live bait.

Hi folks! I'm told this is the ultimate place for the best info so thanks for letting me in! I recently built myself a lamiglas gp1022 with American Tackle double foot TiForged guides. did a 30-20-12-8-8-8-.... train and got exactly what I want - the thing just casts a mile effortlessly. I'd now like to do a similar build on a rainshadow sw867 but I'm wanting to do single foot running guid

Hi, my name is panagiotis and I am from Greece. I did not know how to find a help and while googling I found this forum. At first, sorry forry my not so good English. I have, for a few years, a shimano dialuna s100mh 2018 which is supposed to follow the kr concept from the box. I really like its blank so I am thinking for an upgrade to its guides. I want to use fuji titanium torzite and already

I'm having a problem on a rod I recently built and can't figure out why it keeps happening. The butt guide finish keeps cracking and the guide comes loose. I have redone it 3 times waited at least 7 days for the finish to cure and still. This is the only guide on the 10ft rod that does it. Anyone have any ideas why this keeps happening just on this guide? Threadmaster high build finish, singl

Building a casting pike rod and debating what size butt guide to use, 10 as Fuji recommends, or slim down to a 7. Last night I was experimenting with a size 10 and size 7. I mocked up both guide options and threw a dozen or so casts with each and didn't notice an appreciable difference. The 10 may have the advantage by a few feet. Visually, the 7 definitely brings the line down quicker and is

I've been on a Learn More about the KR Concept kick for a couple weeks now. My first time reading and learning through the material a few years ago, I realized the many advantages and flexibilities KR provides. And just like with CCS, I knew there was even more to learn with a deeper study. One idea that stood out from the rest was Rapid Choke. The KR Concept advocates for a Rapid Choke, o

Super confused. I’m measuring my reel spool diameter at 47 mm x 27 = 1,269mm. That converts to 49.9 inches. My rod I’m building on is 6’ in length so with those numbers I’m roughly left with 10” of rod for running guides (that’s a rough measurement. It may be an inch or two more or less.) Am I doing something wrong? I feel like that’s a small amount of space to put three running guides. Also,

Sorry if I missed this in the search but quick question I need the groups wisdom on - will I be ok to use 3.5 micros using 8-10 braid to 8-10 flouro? I've built a few rods with 4's and had no problems, but need a nudge to go down to the 3.5's. Details, guides I'm looking at are the Seaguide TiMKG 3.5's with the RS ring. Not sure what the ID measures, not provided in the info I could find.

NOTE: Photos are now available at: Photos, Miscellaneous, Jim Kinkennon, starting at "rod repair 1" and transiting left. Address of first pic: While pier fishing in Panama City Beach, I experienced a blank fracture. I was fishing a 9' G1000 graphite spinning rod rated for approx. 1-3 oz. lure wt., using 20lb. braid loaded on a PENN 5500SS reel. I had already had wind knots. I

Hi. I was just wondering when or if torzite becomes a desirable material for guides? I’m fishing with 50lb braid and fighting lake sturgeons (anywhere from 2-5, maybe 6ft). I am having another rod built for me and can ask Erik K, but I’d like some input before I go to him. Does the torzite rings make the sensation of a fish bite more sensitive?

Hi All! I am a brand new rodbuilder. Been a fly tyer for years and figured I would try my hand at some builds. My brother lives in Maui and I am building him a surf rod. There are no charts or info out there on handles and Guides for surf rods that I have found. I bought a Northfork composite blank. It is 138 inches long (11'1") and it is rated at 15-40 lbs Med Light, Fast action. The mode

I'm relatively new to fly fishing and I would like to build a 3wt fly rod I can bring with me on hikes and camping trips to fish smaller creeks/bodies of water I may come by. I already have 5wt and 8wt rods and I think a 3wt over a 2wt would be the most versatile to add to my portfolio? I hope with the help of you guys to build a respectable small creek rod that is a good balance of cost vs pe

Received a bundle of old beater rods from a buddy for parts and refurb on the nicer ones. One of the rods is an old AllStar. I was able to remove the guides and they were in very good shape so I buffed them for reuse. Since I do all this refurb for free, I decided to gamble on this old beater. I laid down some thread epoxy mixed with custom VooDoo gold dust at the guide positions and let

I have two questions on unrelated topics . Hope it's okay to combine them into a single post . #1 In Rich Forhan's articles in the latest issue of RodMaker , he mentions using guide spacing of 5-6-7 down to the spiral wrap where he uses 6-6-6 . What does he mean by these number sequences ? #2 I have noticed that on several spinning surf casting rods in the 10 to 11 foot range the number o

I’m sure this has been discussed. I stopped at a custom rod builder in my neck of the woods to buy a tip top and hook keeper, which I always forget to order. I brought a couple of rods to critique. I’ve only made 5 or 6. He said I was doing alright, but my spine was off on my baitcasting rod. Thought I paid close attention to the right spot. He then explained how I should’ve put the first 2 g

Been out of the game for about 10 years. Is the new guide concept still a good way to set up a spinning rod? I'm building a 2pc 10' spinner (SU1207F-2-MHX) for surf casting and using a van staal vr150 with 50lb braided line (12lb diameter in mono) with no connecting knots. I'm trying to build it as light as possible while being able to cast as far as possible. Also any suggestions on guides th

I have a North Fork Composites 1167-2 Heavy power fast action blank rated 2-8 oz. I plan to match it with a Shimano Aero Technium 14000 (72 mm spool diameter). My guide train will be Fuji RV25 RV16 KW10m and 8's for runners. I need help with determining the reduction train layout. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First post here. Looking to build a few rods and wanted to get some input from forum members on guides as things seem to have changed a little since the days of winding using telephone books. I've got three NFC's to use for drum and cobia rods and I'm planning on a simple spiral wrap. I'll be using Avet SX's on two of them and a Diawa Lexa on the other. The line (50lb braid) comes off the Avets 2

Please help me know what to buy, list what items (or a couple per category) you use. I have no idea what, out of the hundreds of each part, is a "good" or "Quality" product when I'm looking to buy everything I need to for a rod. Practically nothing online has any reviews on any website I look at. I'm sure there is some subjectivity to it all, like any product, but with ZERO

What methodology do you use, if any at all? I usually go with what the manufacturer specifies for the blank and what's on the decal. I've found this to be useful as a starting point, and typically put the decal on the rod as a reference point for the maker, model number, etc. However, on SOME rods, I scratch my head about the lower and upper ends of the ratings listed on the decals. What works
