Hello! On my new blank which I bought there is a small anomaly: What do you think, could this be dangerous for braking when the rod will be under the pressure? Thank you and regards!

Hello, I need someone to set me straight and tell me if im being an idiot. Im currently building a 4 piece, 5ft 6 fibre glass bfs rod but im running into guide placement issues. This is my first casting rod build. I currently have 9 eyes and taped on the rod handles well. Casts well and performance is good. My issue is under load the line touches the blank. Ive gone back to the drawin

Somewhat confusing to me that the freshwater blanks are described with a header that says graphite. However, the detailed description for the first six blanks describes them as “fast glass” So I’m a little confused as whether they’re actually a fiberglass blank?

built a rod on an NFC Delta SW764, or Delta SW765 blank? I ordered one each yesterday that I will be using to build a swimbait / glide bait rod, for bass fishing. I don't really see myself, at least for now, throwing any baits that weigh more than 3 oz., with the majority of them being in the 1 1/2 - 2 oz range. Hud 68 Special, S-Waver 168. Rago Thunderhawk Cha Cha ..... baits in that size range

What are the more standout/tried and true blanks in the NFC lineup? I’ve studied the catalog pretty extensively, but after reading accounts of some disparities (power of the SJ703 versus SJ732 for example), I’m curious what the crowd thinks. What are the rockstars in the lineup? Obviously, opinions vary. But I’m sure there are some that are more popular than others for good reason. Sorry if this

Has anyone built on a NFC ST 1304-2 IM? Looking for reviews. Is it light enough to protect 8lb leaders? I'm looking for something with just a hair more backbone than the 1303 Xray for a spiral wrap build. I'm hesitant to try the 4pc options with a spiral wrapped rod.

Good evening. First post. I have a bass crankbait rod for lures 3/4 to 1 ounce (St. Croix Mojo BassGlass, 7'-04", MH/M) but under heavy load the line rubs the blank. Personally, I don't like that. So I have two questions: 1) In your opinion, is line rub really a problem or not? 2) If I would re-position the guides (and add some) how do I go about determining the new placement for no line rub

I'm putting together, some offshore rods. The client wants tiger thread. I have never read or heard if it is as strong as regular thread. I'm going to under wrap with A size, I have some D size tiger thread and was planning on using it for my over wrap. Anyone know if it is the same strength?

I'm starting to wrap again after not building anything for 12 years. I've always felt that if I glue rings to the blank, I can make a better end product, as opposed to turning on a mandrel and fitting, as I can't fit as well with a premade grip. The reamers are a different tapper, and pre made, are harder to clean. I've received, an order for some large salt grips, and I'm doing rubberized cork e

I have been building for a few years and always used the same technique for finding the rod's spine. However, I have been wondering if my method is correct. I have read a lot of ways to spine and watched many YouTube videos, but something doesn't seem right to me. Most of the discussions about spinning the rod say to roll the rod until it jumps/pops etc. Then mark the rod. So here's my que

I have 3 heavy rods with roller tips and roller bottom guides. Two are new Lamiglas and one is an old Shakespear. I tried a little heat on the old rod roller tip and it didn't budge. I don't want to touch the 2 Lamia's until I have it figured out. Obviously the were not attached with a normal tiptop glue stick. Suggestions anyone??? Thanks, Jon

I'm looking for recommendations for an SPJ rod for targeting 100lb class bluefin out of San Diego on a head boat. My buddy is going on an SPJ specific multi-day bluefin tuna trip out of San Diego in May and needs a heavier SPJ rod. He is well versed in SPJ but has never needed a setup quite this robust. I've never built an SPJ rod but would love to give it a shot for him. I know the usual bla

I have been building with CRB LZR guides, and they have worked well so far. With the recent NFC sale, I ordered a C6O2 725 blank and I've been entertaining the idea of using a titanium guide train on it to take advantage of the reduced weight and try to avoid having the blank be tip-heavy. I don't know much about the titanium guides that are out there, other than they are pretty pricey, and I am

I’m still pretty new to rod building and this forum but I’m head over heels for rod building I just got done with my first build a rainshadow immortal 6’10” m xf spinning set up. Now I’m thinking of building a bfs rod as well for smallmouth river fishing and large mouth as well I’m considering the nfc SJ 703-1(X-Ray LMX) but I’m completely open to other options for blanks and components. I still

Hello all! Im building a st 10105-2 for myself into a spiral wrapped float rod. I will be extending the blank about 5 inches to make it 11'3" (extension like in tom's article but with carbon tube instead of aluminum). Its an extra fast, medium heavy rod rated for .5 to 1.5 oz. 8-20lb line. I have never built a spiral wrapped rod, and there is no guide spacing chart on nfc site. I lik

I made the subject as ugly as possible so nobody would think I was going for anything too fancy. :) First post, new member, and based on the level of expertise I'm seeing in the posts and replies here, I won't mind a pile-on for this idea, if it's deserved. On a recent backpacking trip, we lucked into a giant flush of porcini mushrooms, all throughout the mountains (the Wallowas, of Eastern

I am sure this has been asked before so my apologies up front. I tried searching and didn't come up with anything. I am building a jig rod for bass on a mb7108 xray. Can someone recommend a guide train for this rod? I am hoping to use fuji torzite titanium guides.

As my journey as a rodbuilder begins, I'm wanting to separate myself from the standard issue builds. You know, those multicolor elaborate wraps that are certainly beautiful, just not my cup of tea. So, I'm asking for your input on what are some of the most unique things you've seen on a build? I'm definitely not interested in copying others work, more trying to Kickstart my creativity. I've alw

What is the difference between high build and low build? I am deciding between flex coat or U40 duragloss LS Supreme for thread finishing. Which is most preferred by builders? Since I don't have a drying motor, which epoxy would set the fastest? I think I will apply the thread finish and leave the rod turning on the finishing motor until it set well enough that I can take the rod off an

Hi all. I just received an order of 18 spools of ProWrap threads to build my fly rod with only to find it's a lot finer than I thought it would be and with my tired old eyes almost impossible to work with. I have a lighted magnifying lamp that is about 3x and wear reading glasses but it's still very hard to see what I'm doing. When I need to get both hands in to do things it's in the way so

I'm about to re-wrap single leg guides on my lovely 45yo Fenwick SP-783 light spinning blank. I'll be using an A weight under-thread to protect this delicate blank, and an A weight top thread. I'm after inspiration for a colour scheme to go well with this old yellow fibreglass. Anyone care to share some examples?

I build Bass, Panfish and primarily Walleye rods. I started a program where I get $ from my community and I build rods for kids at no cost to them or parents. Have a young man that wants a Northern Pike rod 7'6" Medium heavy with micro guides. Hello from the Denver area. I'm brand new to this hobby and I have a gazillion questions. My back ground is in automotive, mostly painting. I have run body shops for a while now as working on the shop floor is not practical as I get older and more beat up. I already have 2 expensive and time consuming hobbies in hot rods and fishing. However, I saw a custom hand built rod at a fund raiser an
