Anyone have any tricks to the tape not showing up through the epoxy when installed on the rod. I have used Decal connection with no issues at all after epoxy is applied the decal tape completely disappears. I thought I could save some money and print custom names or logos myself. I purchased the lw-px800 printer and so far every attempt has shown through the epoxy. I have applied a coat of epoxy

My ALPS MD-1000 printer that I use for water slide decals is having issues. It appears that ALPS is no longer in business and I cannot locate anyone that services these printers. Mine is stopping short of printing and displaying paper jam when there is no jam, paper just stops feeding. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is there a thin printing tape I can use in Brothers label Makers? I saw a YouTube video somebody replaced the brothers tape with a very thin label tape that was more suitable for fishing rods but unfortunately the video was in a foreign language. I’ve tried using brothers tapes but they’re just too thick they don’t Conform real well to the radius on the rod

I have a request to build a rod with a college logo decal/sticker. I have not found a source online that is sized for fishing rods. Decal Connection will produce one if they have a letter from the legal department approving the decal. That would be a challenge and probably a licensing fee. Thanks

I have looked around for years and never really found an answer to this question. If I have a bunch of loose Snake guides how can I pick out the various sizes? In other words which ones are #2, which are #3 etc. They are all pretty close in size to my eye, so probably need some kind of measuring device. Same for strippers. What size is a #10 stripper guide?

I have built a number of fly rods this past year. They are all different sizes and weights, I have all of the info on the blanks I have used. The labels that came with the blanks are OK but I want my own custom label, nothing tacky just a small logo and the size, wt of the rod. Where can I get labels either made or make them myself. I am going to build 4 or 5 more rods this year so maybe a ch

I am currently working with a client on a Marine Corps build. I have searched the archives for the USMC colors but I havent see anything regarding to Madeira thread numbers. Does anyone have a hex to Madeira conversion chart? He is looking for an American flag butt wrap with his name, rank, dates of service along with the USMC emblem and his stripes. I have created the image to use for the

A few weeks back I decided to make a CCS Deflection Chart using some CAD software that I also use at work. It is really just a Grid of 1" major squares with 0.1" minor squares labeled to make it easier to measure deflection. Anyhow, started off with a 36" x 48" chart and started looking around for a place to printout the chart. Found out it was going to cost nearly $100. F

What is the difference between high build and low build? I am deciding between flex coat or U40 duragloss LS Supreme for thread finishing. Which is most preferred by builders? Since I don't have a drying motor, which epoxy would set the fastest? I think I will apply the thread finish and leave the rod turning on the finishing motor until it set well enough that I can take the rod off an

I know there are tons of discussions on this board about how to use decals and an epoxy coating for the labels on our custom built rods. However, I have not been able to get a smooth, clean epoxy layer no matter how hard I try. Factory-built rods silkscreen (I think) the labels using a durable paint with no epoxy overcoat. Has anyone tried to do this on your builds? Is there equipment out there t

Hello, I a willing to basically invent a telescopic rod with inside rings (interline) that would be 14'7" long for euro nymphing. This would be fished with a level line #2 and a fly reel with backing for line reserve. The guides will be inside the rod blanc like European toc rods. Is it possible to build one like that? I should be super light and fast action. PS. I have found some on Japanes

Has anyone used Brother P-Touch labels to make custom labels? I have one and want to try it out. Is it suitable? If it is mostly suitable, is there something I can do to make it work (like cover the ends with silk)? Thanks in advance.

If you have any issues with your EPSON labelworks tapes or if you have a K-Sun PEARLabel printer, tapes are under warranty and can be replaced. If you find a horizontal line in your print, you do need to clear your print head from time to time. You can find more information on my web page, Look on my main page for the "ROD BUILDER TIPS" to find more info.

Frustration is at a boil over level - I am in dire need of a weave pattern for Army Sergeant Major. It is for our oldest son. I spent many hours searching the internet and forums and find anything. I am not computer savvy and yes have tried one of the programs to make my own pattern. Would anyone have the pattern/left list that would share it? And is there a one stop shop that would have tons of

I've read a lot of people using the PX800 printer for rod labels and I've seen examples of factory-style labels on rods. I'd be really interested in buying one if I could make a photo-realistic copy of my signature on my custom flyrods though. I have a digital sketchpad and photoshop skills, so getting the image isn't an issue... but I haven't seen an example of this being done super well yet. Is

I am working on my 1st build and have most of my guides wrapped and aligned as best I can. I'm building a casting rod and using #4 running guides so difficult to sight down rod with my 50 year old eyes. I was thinking about just throwing a reel with line onto rod/guides and using that for final adjustments before placing finish. Any other tips/tricks from builders to get guide alignment as str

If you put a layer of epoxy down prior to putting Decals on, how long do you need to let it dry before putting the decals on the epoxy? Would it be the same as if you were to put another coat of epoxy on? or do you need to wait longer for the epoxy to dry before putting the decals on and applying another coat of epoxy over them. Thanks Stan

What's a good inexpensive way to label or make notes on ur rod. I see a lot of references to decals which honestly seems a bit costly based on what I've found so far. Considering all I want to do is make a simple note on the blank to identify it as a a 7'3" M Mod-Action rod/blank. Are decals really the best for this. Are there round stencils one could use to paint then seal with epoxy. Is th

I was originally looking at buying custom decals of a custom logo off of MudHole until I realized they charge an extra $30 fee for first purchase AND require a minimum order of 30 decals on first purchase as well, which would all end up coming out to almost $300 that I’m really not trying to spend. Anyone know a different website that I can buy good rod decals from with a custom logo that doesn’t

I have seen many people post regarding the LW-PX400 printer for labels. From what I have seen, its a really good one for labels. I attempted to use the p-touch label maker but the tapes were stiff and tough to use. Are the tapes for the LW-PX400 less stiff than the p-touch labels? I have also read that the printer comes with software which allows you to print more than just words. Anyone pri
