Good evening! I'm wanting to start building some rods, not as a business or anything, just for me and possibly some friends. I've been looking at all of the suppliers online and have found a plethora of rod wrappers for sale. I wanted to ask y'all if there were any certain brands or models that I should steer clear of? Thanks! Travis

I'm in the process of building a rod for ice fishing. I'm intending to use it outside the shack, so I'm need a tip top with a large ring size (to acid ice build up) but a tiny tube size. It seems like a lot of guys will listen a fly rod tip top for this purpose but I don't think it would hold up to using braided line well. The other solution I've seen is people using a single foot guide as a tip

I'm looking at building one of these new Get Bit 12' Speckled Perch-Crappie Blanks into a rear reel seat rod, but I've got questions lol. The blank is 0.667" at the butt so I'm going to use a size 18 spinning seat. I believe I want to put a full wells grip in front of that. I will put either a small spinning reel or a B'n'M Buck’s Best Ultra Lite Crappie Reel 2, either way I'll use 10

Ice is already here for some and it's coming soon to the rest of us across the Midwest. I've been working on a few new rods for myself for the upcoming season. Last weekend, I wrapped my first "power noodle" and it was a challenge to say the least. After an hour's worth of frustration I absolutely couldn't manage to get the thread started and wrapped on the tip guide. I finally ended u

I am building a medium-action spinning rod, for both freshwater (steelhead in rivers) and saltwater (coho off the beach). I plan to use PacBay Minima fly guides as runners, either the solid-titanium frame w/chrome ring (TF3XG) or the TiCH-finish frame w/TiCH ring (CF4CG). They look similar to me. Any discernible differences between them, for the average angler?

Received a shipment of Minima 4's. They are supposed to go on to a MHX blank for a flipping stick. In looking the guides over, I have noticed that the 'insert' isn't 'rolled' very well on the side of he guides nearest the reel - I'm worried that the sharper edge will catch my leader knot. Has anyone here ever had a problem with Minima 4's and leader knots? I'm going to be using 50-65lb br

1): There are many references on this site about tying off small single foot guides with a Forhan clinch. Where can I get info, preferably with some kind of graphics, for this process? 2): I have never completed a rod using micro guides. Recently I received 3 orders in one week for rods with American Tackle Microwave guides: one casting; one conventional spinning; one 11 ft UL spi

Hi all! I build mostly 15-30lb, 20-40lb and 20-50lb saltwater rods. I had dismissed the pac bay minima guides as a "freshwater" thing. However recently I bought some to try on one of my projects where I will be using a 20-50lb Muskie blank to throw live bait for stripers with 25lb test mono. In this case I am concerned with the strength of the frame of the guide. Also I will be buil

I've been out of the loop for awhile (too much working and not enough fishing). Looking to build up a few fly rods for this spring. Rebuilding my 9'6" 6wt and then maybe a 10'0" 5wt too. I've seen the Minima guides and like the idea. Can't tell the difference between the Minima 3s and Minima 4s. I like the look of the Minima 3 with gold ring. Can someone let me know what a

I have been spiral wrapping minima4 chrome micros one size 5 the rest size 4. One on top one at 180 and then to bottom. I use 12 and 15 pound seagaur invisx and the 180 guide has a groove cut in it other guides are fine. Any ideas what the problem is? If it is the guides which ones will not get cut by the line?

I attended the seminar on Micro guides at NC. A question only recently came to me, but has anyone used these guides for fly rods? I think I understand the principal of the line whipping and hitting the regular guides as the line is cast and the use of Micro Guides to reduce this action. As was demonstrated at the show. I also know that when one fly fishes most of the line is already out of the

I just got a sample of the new Pac Bay Minima guides. The are similar to the Berkley SS304's, but I would say appear to be better quality fit and finish wise, and are available with black frames/TiN Gold rings, and a silverish?? frame/TiCH ring that I have seen. They are very light (sorry no weights yet), and available in quite a few styles including SF Fly and M Style spinning. My one que
