1. Lw-px800
Anyone have any tricks to the tape not showing up through the epoxy when installed on the rod. I have used Decal connection with no issues at all after epoxy is applied the decal tape completely disappears. I thought I could save some money and print custom names or logos myself. I purchased the lw-px800 printer and so far every attempt has shown through the epoxy. I have applied a coat of epoxy

In thinking of cutting back that NFC 705 SM to 6ft. How do you cut a blank? What can I use the left over rod piece for (reel seat insert, extend another rod)?
The goal here is to have a rather short rod for fishing under the dock I'm standing on, and the boats there next to it. These bass are 4-7 pounds and smart - it's brutal crystal clear water like 35+ft visibility at least and always. I've

3. Pens
Hello,
This is my first post and has more than likely been mentioned.
But, can anyone recommend a good pen for righting on blanks?
Something thin lined that I can seal over.
Thanks for any help and advice.

If you use India ink to add a signature to a graphite rod blank do you have to give it a light coat of guide wrap or is it waterproof?

Hello all. I have two Fenwick blanks that have the actual word “Blank” on them. They are models FL-102-6F and FL-96-7F. I am looking to custom wrap these and sell them if possible. Question is, should I leave the word “Blank” on them for authenticity or value? Or can I clean it off and not worry? Also they came with handles and reel seats that I don’t think are very unique. I’d also like to hack

I did an inscription on my blank and while it’s not bad looking I think I might replace it with acrylic paint. My thought was to soak a piece of paper towel in DNA and lay it over the inscription. The enamel has dried for about 72 hours.
Thoughts?

Hello, Am I the only one that has a hard time looking for specific type of blanks on North Fork web site? Why can they not organize there web site like it Batson or Rod Geeks to make it easy. My questions lay in the lettering of the blanks. I am a walleye guy so I looked under fresh water blanks, figure that is where I would find Walleye style blanks. They have no Med fast 8-14lb 1/4 to 5/8 style

I'm hoping someone can tell me where I might see photos of the last Wonderods / first Ugly Stiks. I have a spinning rod that has the Wonderod decal ( decal is blue and green with white lettering) There is a decal missing just in front of the foregrip. Blank is black, wraps are black with narrow white trim bands. There is a single white single thread crosswrap about 3 inches long in front of the

Gents, 50 years or so ago I was eliminated from my one and only spelling bee competition. My first word was groceries. Pressure was on. I went with g-r-o-c-e-r-y-s. I was politely asked to return to my classroom. I never forget that word and was reminded of it every time I wrote a check at the store and filled in the memo blank with the word "groceries". Well today I was finishin

What do you guys use to add a name to a blank? I'm in a rush & I have to add somebody's name to a custom rod for a birthday gift. I saw something on You tube I tried that & it didn't work so well for me. The paint ran for me & it wouldn't dry.

a friend of mine has an old shimano fighting rod, the one that tapers right into the handle, its old but he really loves that rod, and the finish is chipping off, you can scratch it off with you thumb nail. He would like to save it and have it refinished, to look new again. so can the finish be just sanded in the areas that are flaking off, or does the whole rod need to be sanded and the old fini

16. Polyurethane
Has anyone used wipe-on polyurethane over top of handwriting on rod. I have seen a video on YouTube where a rod builder used polyurethane over a hand written signature. I am trying to get the look of a raised lettering from the enamel ink I used for signature. The standard finish will completely cover the ink and has not give the look I would like to have in the previous builds. I am wondering if

17. has anyone.....?
drawn/painted pictures on a rod blank using pigmented epoxy? (sort of like marbling but on a different level!)
assuming the artist is good enough and quick enough, (and the brush fine enough!) is there any reason (that i cant see at the moment) why it cant be done?
I'd just have a bash but the white blank i have is very sentimental and i need to be confident before i start...
cheers,

Hi there, looking to build a drop shot spinning rod for Great Lake smallmouth.
I don't want to spend a fortune on the blank but am looking for something light weight and strong. This set up will use braided line to a fluorocarbon leader.
I appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

19. Custom Decals
Hello all! Was doing some Googleing and found a tutorial for custom making decals. I just wanted to see if anyone here had done the same. I searched for the word decal and came up with no results for this particular method.
So it is basically a clear 2" x 4" Avery mailing label is printed with a patterned background and left white on the design where you want the label to remain c

Hi folks. I've been a lurker here for a couple years, but just finally registered. I hope you'll entertain a rod restoration question that's probably a dumb newbie question to you but kind of important to me.
I have an old rod that my wife remembers using on her father's boat in the 1970s. That and two Penn reels are the only posessions of his that she has left, and I'd like to restore the r

I've decided that the decal that came with the blank I'm building on is too big and I don't want it on my rod so I'd like to instead write the model number and specs on by hand. Is there a pen or marker that i can write on the blank with and then put finish over? The blank is painted a gloss black and I'd like to write with silver or white lettering.
Thanks!

I've been asked to build a rod using an older Lamiglas blank. The question is, "how old is this blank?" The one-piece, 8-foot, fiberglass (e-glass?) blank is honey-colored. The rectangular label has "Lamiglas" printed in white on a black background, with small lettering in the foot of the "L" that reads "Kent Wash." Under the Lamiglas lettering is a white s

Hello,
I'm working on a Lamiglas SMB-842 F and the blank has what appears to be a screen-printed manufacturer's label. Is there a reliable method of protecting this label so it doesn't wear off? I tried applying some of my usual epoxy finish, but it seems to be reacting to the ink in the screen print causing the epoxy right above the lettering to go wavy? Luckily was able to wipe off the epoxy

Hello all,
I have been struggling to do some rod lettering and numbering with a pen. I dont want to use stickers, decals, or transfers. I want to use ink, then coat it with spar varnish. Glass and graphite rods.
Can anyone provide some good info on what nibs they have been happy with? Inks? Maybe a link? You tube has a fair amount of info, but nothing really on writing on a blank.

Hello,
I just finished wrapping and coating my latest rod, a Christmas gift for my son. I painstakingly put a very nice script on the rod only to have my spar varnish run the paint. I was using Testors silver model paint.
I want to stay with the spar varnish. What paint is compatible, I dont want it to run again.
Thanks

28. gold leaf ?
So I have been experimenting with Gold Leaf... without much success but thats beside the point for this post. I had a thought about how to use gold or silver leaf for lettering.
Would anyone know of a way to actually print an adhesive or something that remained tacky onto a backing then transfer that onto a rod blank. This would then allow you to apply the gold leaf to the rod leaving whate

I have a white MHX blank that I just finished like this last spring, and I looked at the threads and epoxy and there was yellowing in the epoxy on the wraps where the hook keeper is, I was wondering if it could be that since the blank is white it shows up earlier or it just more distintictive cause of the white blank? Its just kind of faded yellow not that bad yet, or could it be that there was s
