Hey Friends, I tried euro nymphing on my 10' 5wt rod this past weekend and I must admit it was exhilarating to feel the hit of the fish. Caught two rainbows and a few creek chubs, it was a lot of fun. So I'm thinking about building a euro rod. I see CTS makes a euro blank but I can't find any reviews on it. I saw some folks have built euro rods with the Affinity X or MX and liked them. Wonderi

Hello from the Denver area. I'm brand new to this hobby and I have a gazillion questions. My back ground is in automotive, mostly painting. I have run body shops for a while now as working on the shop floor is not practical as I get older and more beat up. I already have 2 expensive and time consuming hobbies in hot rods and fishing. However, I saw a custom hand built rod at a fund raiser an

I built a NFC Delta MB664 for topwater and hard jerk bait. It bombs 1/4 oz jerkbiat out a mile and I really enjoying jerking with the stiffer tip section. But this rod can't handle 1/8oz small jerk bait or soft jerk bait (zoom fluke jr). I am looking to build another 6ft6 length jerk bait rod specifically for the smaller jerk bait application and am looking at Point blank. I have built PB701L

Okay so I'm on to what I believe is the final piece of the puzzle. I have my Rod Blanks selected. Going with the for my jerk bait rod and for my skipping rod I know this doesn't make a difference, but for the jerk bait rod I'm going with a Ohio State/Classic car style the entire rod being Red Metallic with silver metallic thread. For the flipping Rod I'm using my old high school colors of p

I imagine this will get some debates going. The part for that makes this the most difficult is not being able to put my hands on a Rod Blank before buying one. Which leaves me with the opinions of others based on there experience. With that being said, let me try and set a control group if that is even possible. Brands I have personally held in my hand. I almost hesitate to post this in fear of it being associated with a couple of recent posts which may have been considered by many to be nonsensical. Please believe me this is an honest request for information. How is the “action” of a blank actually determined? I am fully aware and accept that slow, medium, fast and extra fast designations are representative of where the blank “initially” start

Anyone have experience with the MB663? Was thinking of grabbing two of them to make jerkbait rods. I recently ordered the 664 and it's way too powerful. Looking to build the rod for throwing the standard 110 sized jerkbaits in 1/2oz size. Open to other blank recommendations as well.

Here is a look at the second place rod in the 2021 International Rod Building Challenge. Photo: This beautiful custom was designed, built, and submitted by Wade Christensen. Wade built this red to be interchangeable between a spinning and casting rod. A unique design and nothing short of amazing!!!

Hey guys looking for your opinions to see if I am heading down the correct path. Rod will be used primarily with 10# to throw 110's and Rapala Shadow Raps or Jackal Rerange jerks... The more I look the more I continue to come back to drop shot blanks. Seem to like that ML or M power in those blanks with a faster recovery. Heres what i came up with, let me know about these options for this applica

I found two rods that I had left by a buddy’s house almost 2 years ago when I stopped by to see him today. Both were lower end inexpensive rods that I had bought when I first got into bass fishing. I actually really like the blanks... plus they’d be great as spares, but I figured I’d go ahead and upgrade the components and put my own personal touch on them. One is a 7’ medium/fast Halo StarLite a

Hello all and thanks to Rodgeeks for telling me about this site. Now for my question I’m from Virginia and do a lot of kayak fishing in Virginia and in Outer Banks. The problem I’m having is find a rod that I could use for both areas. Fast tip for casting lighter weight lures and worms for the rivers here in Va but have enough back bone for the sound side of Outer Banks when fishing live shrimp a

Which one of these 3 blanks would be a good jerk bait rod throwing weightless plastics, floating worms and swimming plastic up to a 1/4oz jig head. Will be fishing 8lb fluoro. Gents, I’m about 10 builds into this rod building vocation and my boys are continuing to benefit from this addiction. Lately, I’m spending a lot of practice cast time in the yard and on the water trying to determine the best blank for the application I want to use them for. I’m a Texas coast fisherman (specks and reds) and thus far I’ve focused on popping cork rods (live shrimp) and plug castin

A possible customer is a tournament carp fisherman. He fishes for carp with a conventional reel, a forked stick, and dough balls. He wants a ten foot blank capable of casting a 1/2 - 3/4 ounce bait-and- weight at least 100 feet , but gently so as not to throw the bait off the hook, and still have enough backbone to stop a 30# carp from running for cover/snags. My experience with carp has been sho

I'm looking for a 5 1/2 or 6' blank for river bass fishing with 6 or 8 lb mono. I built a rod on a MSCS721-MHX blank with minima guides and cut to 5 1/2' and don't find it sensitive enough. For several years I used a Basspro Extreme 5 1/2' 2-8 lb and din't find it sensitive enough so built the MHX rod. I fish from a kayak and have to cast under many trees so the shorter rod is a help. Hi all.. I am about to build a Bass jerkbait rod, spiral wrapped, based on the Seeker React Pro blank #SBS706. I do not trust myself yet on selecting guide sizes. I plan on cutting the blank down 4" or so, a bit from the tip, and more from the butt. Thinking 7 guides and a tip top. This will have a Calcutta Conquest 100 on it, most likely running 8lb

Just curious what you guys think of these blanks? I saw an earlier post about them but there hasnt been any updates in a while. I just picked up the P703 . Im hoping sum1 here has built on this blank and can let me know how it handles the weight range its rated for. I plan to use if for soft plastics and 5/8oz Topwater Jitterbugs for bass up to 6+lbs.

Hey guys was looking for some recommendations for a jerk bait rod.. I like to throw jerkbaits from 7/16-1/2 ounce on 8 pound test mono.. I want a blank that won't be too stiff to lose action on the jerkbait and has some play for the trebles.. Also looking for something no longer than 6'9 as I work tip down and don't want to hit trolling motor. Any suggestions on a blank.

I know these two usually don't go together but I have a customer who wants me to find a blank in the 6'8"-7'2" range 8-15 lb test line that he can use to throw jerks and will still work to occasionally drop shot with. Any recommendations?

A friend asked me to build a musky rod for him, a first for me. He wanted a two piece St Croix if possible, so I found that a 2M70MH2 would meet his needs. Where this guy even heard of a spiral wrap is beyond me but that's what he wants. My plan was to use AMT ringlock/nanoplasma double foot, starting with a 20, then 3 10's for the transition guides and then 8s out to the 8 tip. He also wants an

I am currently building a couple of extra fast action spinning rods and do not completely understand the benefits of the fast tip. I have been told the fast tip will give a little to let the fish take the bait without feeling any pull on the line? Also that a blank will be able to cast lighter baits while still having enough power to set the hook and control the fish? The one I have completed

For you guys that make rods or fish in the Southern Gulf area, I have a St. Croix 3S68MXF that I happened to purchase by accident. I thought I could use that opportunity to build a rod for myself. I fish primarily for redfish in the La marshes and also fish a few tournaments throughout the year. I have built quite a few rods including spinning and spiral wrap baitcasters, but I have no idea what

I seldom use jerk baits and have been asked to build a rod to meet the following requirements: 6ft 8 to 6ft 10. Throws a 5/8ths oz to 1 oz jerk bait on conventional all on top micros. He fishes tip down and hits the water on the retrieve all the time. 10lb floro as the water is very clear. Bay Springs area/ Pickwick lake. Big Spotted and smallmouth bass. Now i have fished with this guy
