Hi, curious at the expo reception Tom talked about a rod sleeve protector he used to put over rods to give to people. I am making a few rods for friends and was wondering what sleeves people recommend. The rod is a 7’ spinning rod. Thanks Mitch

Are there durability or other issues in putting size 12 and 10 single foot stripping guides on a 6 wt fly rod? OEMs seem to use standard stripping guides or rods that feature single foot running guides. I want to go all single foot for the look.

Consider the following for rod builders to not only make a little extra money, but save money as well. After consulting, building and delivering a custom rod, a proper storage / transportation case of sorts is certainly in order to protect the investment of time and money spent to produce your work of art. Selling your customers a custom rod tube can offer the builder a little extra money initial

Can anyone tell me how they store and ship one piece casting rods that are 7 feet long? I am looking at a number of options other than sections of PVC which I already have. For example, St. Croix offers cloth rod sacks that can accommodate spinning or casting rods and it looks like you can get aluminum tubes up to 84" long. Thanks

This is for those of us that sell rods. Do you do anything extra for your customers? Like giving them a bonus of some kind. I bring this up because I was talking with another builder last night and mentioned that I give a rod sock with every rod I sell. I found a lady who makes them for about $4 each for me but something so small makes the customers face light up. In the past I have given away h

What are you folks doing for hard sided rode tubes / travel tubes? I like both the aluminium & the nylon wrapped PVC tubes, but have yet to find a good place to buy them. Every time I buy a new fly rod off the shelf, it comes with a tube so when I give these rods away, I'd also like to include one. I've noticed that there are a few available out in cyberspace (both retailers and @#$%&), bu

I know i should have checked first but i just placed an order with them. They are a sponsor here so i thought i would give them some business. Have any of you ordered from them before? They had some good deals on Lamiglas rod blanks so i ordered some along with some finish and such. I hope they had the blanks in stock as the order processed just fine. Any one have any info on Anglers?

I am just wondering if there is a dealer (hopefully a site sponser) that sells "blank" rod tubes and socks that i could make to match my custom rods. I had the idea after looking at a buddys sage rod and hearing how some G. Loomis rods come with cases. I have heard of the PVC pipe idea, but i was hoping something a little classier. (referring to Sage tubes) maybe brass ends and a

Check out the L-Tech Fly Rod Series!!! Exposed Split Reel Seat, Burled Cork Accent Rings, Machined-Sculpted Rear Hood and Locking Ring, Bronze Finish, Rod Weight of 2.6 oz. for a 9' 5wt. Then absorb

The bad news first - the extreme winter snowstorm that unexpectedly blanketed most of the Northeast late last week most likely shortshopped a few hundred folks who were on their way to this weekend's event. That kept us from having the kind of attendance increase I had hoped for. The good news, however, is that even with the storm, our numbers for both days was up, again. I need to wind down an

Well, here's some "stuff" I hope will help, although it's only about peripherals, not directly about such "core" subjects like guide sizes, number, and placement, wrap finishes and CP, spiral wrap vs "normal" wrap, the physical aracnia and esoterica of rod actions, etc. The first thing is about a cork-handle cleaning technique we came upon this weekend. Normally,

Hi Everyone, I've been invited to head over to Destin, Florida next year and spend some time fishing offshore with a good friend of my fathers. He is an AVID Cobia/Ling fisherman and I would like to make him a custom rod as a thank you for letting us stay with him and his hospitality. I've never even SEEN a Cobia in person. I've read up some about them and read some pretty hilarous reports

Having never been to any sort of rod building show I can only say that what I saw in NC last week just blew my socks off. I've been to other general fishing and sportsmans shows and I didn't expect that custom rod building would have anything like that. It just rocked my world to be able to learn so much and see so much in just a couple days. Surely this show sets the bar at a level that no one e

Blue Water Fly Rod For IGFA Record Entry - Marlin/tuna The IGFA site has rules under fishing/rules that describe the requirements for the rod used when a record fish is submitted. The section on requrements for rods and fly rods is quite simple. "Rods must conform to generally accepted fly fishing customs and practices. Any rod that gives the angler and unsporting advantage wil

Hi Guys, This is not really rod-building related, but I need to obviously protect my rods and the guys I build for as well. I have searched many shops but seems the cheapest rod bag (nice and good qaulity) is around US$11.00, while the cheapest aluminum tod tube is around US$ 30, and the cheapest cordura covered (zippered top) tube is around US$ 39. Can anyone tell me where I could get sock

Can anyone recommend some cloth fly rod bags to protect 3 and 4 pc. 6 and 7 weight rods, 9' long? These bags will be used to hold rod sections inside REC's aluminum canisters. Cabela's appears to have almost 100% 2 pc bags, I have always thought St. Croix bags were a little short, and a lot of manufacturers scale things for tiny trout rods. Thanks.

Evening everyone, Anyone know a source for the above mentioned rod socks? I have neither the time, nor the patience (neither does my wife) to sew my own. My source is out and doesn't know when he'll have any back in. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. John

Hello. This is my first time to this forum. I'm glad I stumbled upon it. I'm really excited to see the input from some manufacturers. Maybe some one can help me. I am looking to stabilize my own wood to make my own reel seats. 1. Is there a difference between stabilizing and resin-impregnating? 2. If so which materials would be better suited for this. Lighter weight acrylics, resins, etc. 3. Is
