Which of these three common materials do you prefer for your grips? (Or do you prefer another material altogether?) Do you prefer one over the other for a specific reason or purpose? Mix them up? What's your rationale? I'm using CF more often these days. However, my love-affair with cork has not gone away by any means. To be honest, I've never used EVA because I don't like the feel nor look

Could any of you suggest a thread color close to Alabama's crimson red as well as their grey? Either regular nylon or a color fast thread would be very helpful.

I built a matching set of rods for specs and red fish using Winn split grips. One casting and one spinning. Broke the casting and want to rebuild it to complete the set. The problem is the spinning rod handles have started to breakdown and the color is completely coming off all over my hands. I have tried rubbing with alcohol but after it dries when you pick it up again it continues to stain your

1. What's the best way to clean winn grips? Soap and water? 2. What do you guys charge for replacing a guide? The one in question is a size 5 single foot. I'm thinking $15 is reasonable for a single foot, one thread color with 3 single trim bands. Thank you!

Has anybody used the Winn full length taper grip? And if so how do you orient it on the blank. If the small end is behind the reel seat it doesn’t match up, if the large end is at the reel seat then the butt cap is too big.

Hello Community, I am attempting to make my first rods, one for my 9 year old nephew and also one for me. The rods will be used for Twitching/Spinning rod for salmon and steelhead for the rivers near Vancouver BC (Vedder river, Capilano river, Stave river, etc..). it will be paired with a Shimano Vanford 3000xg spinning reel. I would like a 2 piece rod for ease of transport and storage. I

Quick questions - I saw some stuff about color preserver (or thread already treated that doesn’t need preserver) making wrap finish not totally absorb into threads so it doesn’t set as strong as thread without preserver - your experience and thoughts? Saw a video where one side was treated and the other not - was certainly convincing. I’ve watched so many hours of rod building vids on YouTube

I have a very nice rod I'm about to make and the quality of the cork on the premade Fuji grips just doesn't do it for me. Is there on here who is able to make custom grips that fit these seats? I would imagine cutting the grip to fit the seat could prove difficult but just thought I would ask. Or if someone knows of another source that would work too. Thanks, Denham

In other threads I have been mentioning and asking questions about building cork grips, and as usual, the membership of this site came through in flying colors, with many great answers, and suggestions. I just want to thank each one of you that have given suggestions and tips for making grips. I had already built one foam core carbon sleeved grip, and it was a lot of fun, so I knew building cork

Just received my newest jigging blank from American Tackle, the Bushido Extreme. I am totally impressed with this blank and can't wait to get it out on the water! I chose the 7'2" 12-20 model and plan to use it off the NW Coast for inshore bottom-fishing. There are also models with line ranges of 15-25, 20-30, 25-40, 30-50, and 50-80. I am pairing it with the also new TiForged Air gu

Looking for a blank for bottom bouncing walleyes. Here is the description the guy gave me… “This rod(s) will be used 100% for bottom bouncing for walleye. I generally use 2-3 oz bottom bouncers. Ideally a 7' rod (1 piece). I'm open to slightly longer or shorter, but not too much. The rod has to load up/bend the first 1/3rd - 1/2 so the walleye can eat the crawler harness before he feels it. I’ve recently come into a lot of extra time at home and decided to pick up the hobby. I’ve been gathering some equipment and supplies and I’m starting to build a list of components I want to use on my first couple of rods. I took advantage of the NFC sale and got 5 blanks to start on. A SJ 603, 2 MB 663, a MB 733 and a SJ 736. The 603 will be a spinning rod for my 7 year old nephew to build f

I'm looking at using a Fugi VSS 16-15 reel seat on my PB701LXF build. I've never installed this reel seat and associated grip before. Are there any nuisances I need to be aware of for this installation of this reel seat and grip? I will probably use the Winn AR VSS GRIP, KSKSS, and Winn AR WTC foregrip. Appreciate any assistance

Okay so I'm on to what I believe is the final piece of the puzzle. I have my Rod Blanks selected. Going with the for my jerk bait rod and for my skipping rod I know this doesn't make a difference, but for the jerk bait rod I'm going with a Ohio State/Classic car style the entire rod being Red Metallic with silver metallic thread. For the flipping Rod I'm using my old high school colors of p

i want to replace the cork grips on my stellar lite spinning star rod (SG1530ISL/4” fore grip/12” butt ) with winn saltwater grips. For the butt i wanted to use the S12BX-NAT-125 Saltwater AVS Straight Cylinder 12.00" Saltwater Natural, but I do not know what to use for a fore grip and if i need a butt cap. I have never re-gripped a rod before and this is my primary rod so I’d like to get so

I usually use the TVS reel seats in 17 size. Would this lighter rod be more suited for a 16 sized reel seat? My last two rod builds have been PB691MLXF and PB691MXF both with size 17 reel seats and using KR Concept guide trains.

Update (7/23): I ended up going with the X-Wrap and it worked perfect. If, in the future, I want to redo the grips...I'll still have that option. Thanks to all that replied. -Dan- ======================================================================= The last time I was building (several years ago), I had attached the real-seat and Hypalon grips on a couple of 670 class blanks,

Hi:I looked in the library but no mention of this. When locating the spine on a 4 piece fly rod do you spine each piece individually? Seems like this would be necessary except for the butt piece maybe...

Wondering about durability of winn grips. I am not a real fan of the looks or the feel. But they would fill a need for one of my builds. First option I have not been able to get ahold of. Anyways I have had some bad experiences with rubber tool grips recoil pads of guns etc. makes me a bit leery of going rubber type grip on a fishing rod. Rod will be a limited use UL. But it may spend a fair amou

Over the past couple of years, I've come to think that when it comes to surf rods, shrink wrap over a cord grip is the best grip material there is. It gives all the benefits of cord (durability, ease of replacement, etc.) but the shrink wrap eliminates the one thing that a lot of surfcasters don't like, which is that cord by itself can feel rough in the hand. I've used it on a bunch of rods, and
