I was intrigued with Pete Holloway’s “Easy Spiral System” article in the last issue of RodMaker magazine. While I have developed my own method of producing spiral-wrapped rods which work extremely well, somewhere between the simple spiral and the 0-60-120-180 systems (but NEVER a 90* bumper), utilizing the actual blank under load to determine the rotational positions of the transition guides seem

Well, after ironing out some rod blank issues with a supplier, I was able to start my first complete build this past week. I wish I was able to say I was able to complete the entire build, but I'm waiting on 2 running guides, one of which I'll need to complete the rod, that were back ordered from my initial components order. Happily, they were shipped late this past week, and I should have them i

Does anyone, besides myself, remember the discussions regarding the use of Future Floor Finish(Wax) as a finish for fishing rod guide wraps? I have exhausted the search functions of most rodbuilding forums with no success. Thanks in advance. C2

I was cleaning out my stash and came across this partially used quart bottle of Future Floor Finish. Memory fails me here, but maybe someone's doesn't. It is an acrylic, non-yellowing floor finish, that sounds good. What was it used for and why did we stop? Old Heads; help me here! C2

I was just applying Thread Master to a wrap last night and this morning when I chcked I had two big bubbles about a 16th inch. The wrap is a closed wrap on a large diameter rod and about 5 inches long. I have never had a problem like this before. I aplied the finish and was working around the shop for two or three hours after word and checked it before i left and the bubbles were not there. As a

Just posted a pic with fair resolution of a CP test I've been playing with. 20 test patches. Will provide the legend later. Easier to get opinions without name bias I think. Some notes tho: #1 is with nothing at all #14 was repelling the epoxy somewhat, but not horribly #15 was repelling the epoxy somewhat more, and something fell out of solution while in use. So forget that one #18 is ra

I did a search but couldn't find any thread stating which CP works best with Madeira Polyneon thread. Can anyone tell me which CP you have had the best results with before I try one and don't get good results. Thank You for any help, Charlie G.

I am out of 811 Color Preserver and am trying to finish a rod for a friend by this weekend. Does anyone know of a reliable alternative that can be used perhaps from common sources?

Well, I have my first problem that I don't quite know what to do with. I wrapped my guides as I always do, same basic tension, Gudebrod nylon black, and as I was wrapping I noticed that the thread seemed to have more fuzzies than normal, actually more than I have seen. I flamed the wraps to burn off the fuzzies and thought I'd be okay. When I began applying finish, it raised more fuzz ri

I have a new waterslide decal from Decal Connection.....and a couple of questions. Posted a question on Jimi's site...but I know they are doing web site/e-mail work. 1. Do I leave in it the warm water for 2 minutes? Reading the directions I think that is what I'm supposed to do. 2. Can I affix it to a sanded coat of flex coat and still have it come out great when I flex coat over it or

Earlier on this site someone mentioned using Future Floor Polish as a color preserver. I bought a bottle, a quart I think and began trying it. I didn't have great results and went back to gudebrod 811. So I have this bottle of Future around decided to try it on a rod wrap as a finish. I put 811 color preserver on the thread and let it dry. Then began adding coats of Future over that. I'm up to a

Future acrylic floor polish as a thread treatment. FAILED experiment. Even after multiple carefully applied coats water was able to penetrate into the thread and ruin the wrap. Sigh. Helmsman Spar Varnish Rocks However. BTW Can any of you out there make any sense of all of the different thread sizes on thethreadexchange.com. They have an amazing color pallete and a huge selection of brands

As in everything but. I have be experimenting with a variety of stuff that I had laying around the house. Future Acrylic floor polish works as a color preserver. It has a very low bui;d however and tends to be a bit drippy if over applied. Best results came when using 2 light coats of slightly diluted Flex Coat Color Preserver, letting each dry for 12 hours before the next application. The F

I recently picked up a Lamiglass E-Glass fiberglass blank to build. The piece of paper with the blank instructed me to wrap at least 1/2 inch on boths sides of the ferrule. Am I correct in understanding that I am supposed to wrap the male part of the ferrule as well as the female? Also, this blank is pale yellow-orange, almost the color of bamboo. If anyone has built on these blanks, and has

I don't usually use CP on my cane rods but a customer wants hunter green wraps with black tipping so I have been experimenting with color results. I tried Flex Coat CP, Gudebrod #811 and Verathane. I am using 00 silk and have applied multiple coats of each CP then dipped the wraps in Man-O-War Spar varnish. The Flex Coat CP seems like it is the only one giving me a consistent final color. But the

I am an avid plastic modeler and use waterslide decals a lot. In the modeling hobby, we cover, or seal the decals with Future floor polish. It's easy to just brush on and it is self-leveling. So, would it be Ok to cover the decal or hand-drawn inscription with future first and then place epoxy over it? Or, just leave it with several coats of future? Thanks for any replies guys!

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I was going to experiment with Future Acrylic Floor Polish as a CP because I wanted to try a wash with it. It seems to work fine as a CP coat, although time will really tell. It soaks into the threads very easily (it's very thin), and it's crystal clear. Here's what I'm doing: Some time ago I had a pair of Levi's that were headed for the trash. I cut out the
