Interesting, Spencer. 450g is a lot and if you liked a longer head, that means this rod can carry line well. Very interesting. Thank you

Howdy, all. I picked up a two piece 8' 6" All Star Austin blank from Andy Dear at one of the ICRBE shows in High Point a looong time ago. He told me it was a 10/11 weight. I have used it but not a lot and was wondering if anyone had opinions on what grain weight fly line I should use on that rod? I can get the model number off the blank but it is in my storage unit. I can also t

How does one make a fighting butt so the rubberized cork ring on the rear of the butt is convex (bulging outward)? I have seen butts available for purchase that are slightly convex and some that look as if someone cut a ball in half and glued it on. How can I get this result using sandpaper and a straight edge? Do I need another tool? Thank you in advance. Tony

Can someone recommend a blank designed for vertically jigging spoons that weigh 1-3oz? This rod is intended for jigging Lake Trout and Whitefish in freshwater (along with salmon in the Great Lakes or other inland bodies of water). Good examples of spoons that we use can be seen here In order of most commonly used weights, it is majority 2oz with some 1 oz and rarely 3oz. I would pref

Hey, Kent. Do you know the history behind the gloss black Pac Bay Professional Series blanks that are still around? Where they were made and when, etc.? Thank You

Thank you, Darrin and Mr. Phipps. I am curious if you know where the gloss black Professional Series were made. These were made before PacBay went offshore or recently? THANK YOU

Hi, Nick. I have not built any CTS fly rods. I did not like that I could not pin down the grain ratings, but I know many people like them. You could talk with Barry Weaver of Dream Weaver custom rods. He might know more about these CTS blanks as he builds a lot of them. Of course, you could talk to the man himself, Herb Ladenheim who brings them in from NZ

Is anyone familiar with the IM6 flyrod blanks made by Talon but branded and re-sold as PacBay blanks, before PacBay started sourcing their blanks off-shore? I picked up some New Old Stock and can't wait to build them. There were Forest Green, Olive Green, Matte Black and Burgundy. I picked up a pair of Olive Green and a pair of the Matte Black. They all seem to have the same action, but I tho

Does anyone have experience with the Fishing Art IGNUS or VENTUS R blanks made in Poland? The VENTUS R is listed as Extra Fast and they tell me it likes "slightly heavier lines" which I read as "you have to use a line that is heavier than weight rating or go up a line weight. The IGNUS is listed as Fast. I am looking for a 9wt, which is the heaviest rod weight they m

Good day all. I heard on the street that there is someone out there who can paint specs and logos and things on to rod blanks? Is this true?

Hi, Joe. We are still trying to figure out if it is a TSP70ML3 or a TSP70MH3 rated at 3/8-3/4oz, which I always thought it was, until I saw that someone wrote "TSP70ML3" on the sleeve that the blank came in. If it is the TSP70ML3, I was going to use it for throwing #10 Rapalas or Mepps #4 or # spinners for Walleye, Lake Trout, Pickerel or even Northern Pike. I was also going to u

Howdy, Spencer. Good to see you out and about, here on the board. I know the blank was made by Talon and anything I've ever had from them was spot on in terms of lure weights. Almost ridiculously accurate. I did not intend to order a blank this light. For years I thought I had the next model heavier, the "MH" then looked at some writing on the sleeve that the blank came in which said

Is anyone familiar with the Anglers Workshop travel blank, TSP70ML3? It is 7 foot long, 3pc and rated for 1/4-1/2oz lures. I am curious to know what your experience has been - what do you use it for? What lure weights does it actually throw well? Did you build it out as a casting or spinning rod? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Tom. Thanks very much for your reply. This does help. I am going to try some different types of lines and see what works well, but am going to start with what I would most likely use for my application - compact head intermediates and sinking lines. Cheers.

Is anyone familiar with this blank? Many years ago when All Star was purchased, Andy Dear had a lot of Austin blanks at the ICRBE when it was still in High Point. Ken Preston (I miss him) told me "buy this blank!". So, I did. I built it out and have not had a lot of time to fish it but wanted to hear what some think it is best used for. I heard it was a great Tarpon rod, but I i

Joel. I think I have one of those blanks and built it out but have not used it much. my intention was throwing large flies for Northern Pike. What type of lines do you think it's better suited for throwing, Floating, Intermediate or Sinking?
