Try using Recoil Guides for the running guides they are lighter than both the Minima or the Fuji KB/KT runners. That is what G-Loomis uses are the upper end pricey rods, (or use to). Super light.

I just didn't use any color preserver, before I applied the epoxy. It turned dark blue. Maybe I'll have to give it another thy with color preserver. Thanks for your reply, Don

I had a customer bring by an older G. Loomis NRX casting rod by with cracked epoxy on a couple of guides. Can anyone help me out with the thread they used to wrap the NRX guides? The newer NRX has a light blue thread; but these are wrapped with a blue-green thread. i thought I found a close match with some Fish Hawk thread and re-wrapped the two guides. The only major problem was the Fish Hawk th

Ron, Go to Anglers Resource's web site for the Guide Placement software. It works great. I use it for the initial positioning and sizing of the guides, then static load the blak for minor adjusments. I have not been disappointed at all. Here's the link to the web page:

Try using drywall sand paper. It works great on EVA foam. Then smooth with 200 - 400 sand paper.

I was just checking out Mudhole's available Phenix blanks for a drop shot rod and noted the listed blanks that were not is stock as "Not Available for Back Order". Has Phenix Rods stop making their blanks available for the custom rod builder?

Mark, I found Drywall Sandpaper works great. It doesn't build up with the sanding dust, is available in 100 grit, and then I use a 220 or 400 grit to smooth everything out. The dry wall sand paper is available at Home Depot or Lowe's. Try it ....Mickey" you'll love it!

I have the single use brushes; but prefer the camel hair brushes when apply epoxy to wraps. After done, I rinse them off in acetone and them hang then in brush cleaner until ready to use again. They stay soft and pliable.

Keith, I understand Anglers Resource, (Point Blank), is closed for a month. They sure could answer your question.

Todd, I used to fight this my self. until I read a post on this site explaining a different procedure. This method differs from the other comments above. I apply a heavy coat of epoxy over the decals, (after first applying a coat of color preserver over them). I leave the rod blank on the rod supports and wipe the drips off of the bottom of the blank, as they appear, with a brush, or spatul

A fishing buddy of mine was heading home from work at Palm Springs last night; and, he said he past a whole line of boats heading out to the Colorado River / Lake Havasu. In So Cal all of our lakes are closed due to restrictions resulting from COVID19. I am jealous! I have several rods that I have recently built and 'would love to try them out.

Just let it set up and then sand it with 200 grit and go down to 400 grit, then re-coat.

Dave, I understand the guide size is based on the opening size of the frame / guide foot and not the ID of the ring.

Even though yo indicated "Don’t like larger butt diameters", I would recommend the Point Blank PB701 MLF. I have loved all of the Point Blanks that I have built. A great tip with plenty of backbone!

I received a broken fishing rod blank from Mudhole which was shipped by FedEx. I have had the shipping tubes bent before, but this was my first broken blank. The blank cost me $117.00 and FedEx has a $100 standard damage limitation of their uninsured shipments. So, on January 13th, I followed the web site instructions took a picture of the shipping label, with Tracking Number, the damaged shippi

Wes, What works for me, (if guide spacing is not available from the blank manufacturer), is to resort to Mudhole Guide spacing for a similar rod blank. I temporarily wrap the guides on the blank in the positions suggested by the Mudhole guide spacing recommendations. I use elastic thread or the Micro Guide Bands for this purpose. I then static load the rod blank, (explanations available herein

Russ, The only thing I warranty is my work, i.e. loose guide, not broken guide, loose reel seat etc. I inspect the damage to see if there is any evidence of abuse. If not, I replace or repair at no expense. I do not warranty the product or work of others.

One word of caution / consideration when epoxying carbon fiber grips. Let me share an experience I had with a carbon fiber grip I installed on a returning tournament fishing customer's rod. As I recall the blanks was a Rainshadow Eternity, (back when they were colored blue). My customer had seen a carbon fiber grips on a web site and he wanted to "pop" the extra money to have one
