I was able to "play"with these blanks when visiting the American Tackle Headquarters back in December. I was beyond impressed. I'm a salt water guy and I can't wait to try these blanks on Tog, flounder, and cobia this summer. The action on these blanks is absolutely perfect and their power is second to none. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

I live on/near the Chesapeake Bay. 98% of my builds are saltwater. Of that, 3/4th are inshore. I run charters so my stuff is tested, used, and abused. I've built on several top name blanks over the years. For my needs, the Bushido series has become my go to blank for near shore pups, specks, flounder, and rockfish. The CB 72 8/15 is my top choice.

That type of rod is my bread and butter. The Bushido LS 8/15 is a good blank for that, but for me Matrix MA-MB7/8-14 way better for that application.

The American Tackle AXST series of blanks are great stand up rods. I've built many on these blanks. The 5'6" XH is my favorite.

Thanks for the info. I think my rodmaker subscription lapsed and didn't get that issue. Just renewed and bought the magazine mentioned above.

Looking at starting to turn my own grips and need help with a lathe. I've googled, searched on here, and done other research but still have too many questions. I understand what a lathe is and does, but I'm lost with all the attachments. Can the experts on here point me in the right direction? What type of chuck is preferred for turning and or reaming grips? Which tools, chisels, cutters, e

That blank and the 8-15 blank are all I use for my inshore rods. Trout, pups, flounder, and rock. Blank won't quit.

Check out the American Tackle LS7/10-20. I use this blank in saltwater for jigging Flounder, Rock, Pups, and live baiting specks. Also a great Spade fish rod. I know you requested 12-20, but this blank is awesome and I know it will meet your needs.

On the American tackle blanks, look at the MB and CB lines as well. I throw 1/8-3/8 in the salt for specks, pups, rock, and flounder. I like the MB73/8-15, SJ72/6-12, CB72/6-12 and CB72/8-15 depending on the type of lure. For just lead heads I like the MB and SJ. For lipless and lipped cranks, I like the CB's

I know you didn't mention it, but the American Tackle Bushido CB72 8-15 is a great crankin blank. Very light and sensitive. I have made several for customers and use them regularly with clients.

I would recommend the American Tackle MB73/15-30 for that type of fishing. I would also second Billy's mention of the 733. I have used both regularly for that type of fishing. A 500 tekota on the Bushido blank is a great all around combo.

I would recommend the American Tackle AXGC66MH for your needs. It's a 20-50lb blank and matches well with the TLD 25 you have.

American Tackle MB73/15-30 . is great for cobia and all sorts of bottom fishing. Rubber gimbal, 12 inch rear grip, size 18 reel seat, and a 6 inch front grip. Pair it with a 5k or 6k shimano saragosa and let the memories begin.

I love the Bushido CB72 line of blanks. Great action and sensitivity! After fishing all day with them on the flats, some of my charter customers ask me to build them "a rod like I used today". Can't go wrong with the Bushido.

I have 4 Tanacom Bulls on #4 bent butts and aftco swivel roller tips using the American Tackle AXGC56XXH. I commercial fish blue lines and Goldens in the Norfolk Canyon with these set ups and they are perfect for that type of fishing.

The American Tackle LS 7 8-15 is a great blank for what you described. Pair it with a 2500 Shimano Stradic CI4 and it enjoy for years and years. I have 6 of these set ups for my inshore charters and they perform incredibly.

I would highly recommend the American Tackle Matrix MA-SJ66/6-12 for that application. I throw the same basic weights for the same fish in the lower Chesapeake Bay and that blank is great for that fishing.

Can't speak to the spiral but for your spinner - 30-20-16-10 then 5 8's and the tip.

The American Tackle LS76/8-15 and LS76/12-25 should fit your needs. Personally, I like the LS7/10-20 for the fishing you described. But if you have to have it over 7' then the LS 76's are the way to go.

Hard to have a good two piece cobia rod, but if I had to have one it would be the American Tackle BU-SWB3K86-2/15-30.

Whites or Blues? Or just general offshore trolling set ups. Since you said 50lbs and Marlin, I would recommend the American Tackle AXGC70MH. It is a 7'0 blank, which is great for white marlins. I would not go with a bent butt for a white marlin set up. If you just want general 50lb trolling set ups that can do everything, then I would suggest the AXGC60H or the AXST60XHS from American Tackle
