I stressed tested and inspected this blank before building on it, as I do with every blank. The customer had the rod for about 2 months before sending me this picture of a deep scratch on the blank between the 1st and 2nd guide. It was not there when I shipped the rod out. He said he hasn't used the rod.

I need some help with my lathe. I just got it from my wife's grandfather and I can't seem to figure out the tailstock. I can't get the old center out- it seems to be part of the shaft. I'd like to be able to put in a drill chuck and such. Any ideas? This number 2 is on the opposite side of the tailstock from the serial number.

I used the simple spiral and so far I'm pleased with it. I've not used a spiral wrap on any of my personal rods so this is a first for me.

The butt guide is a MNSG 20. I know it's big, but I needed the height so I don't cut my thumb off when holding the foregrip. I chose the SIC because I'm using 50lb braid.

The hook keeper and my decal. I used single thread inlays of gold metallic here and on all of the guides. I'm usually a fan of silver but since the Lami decal is gold, I used the inlays to pull it all together.

The grips are turned from Billy V's variegated EVA- awesome stuff. The split grip is done in a tiger wrap with a black and white base and a white top layer. Two coats of D2 in between layers.

I appreciate Tom allowing us to post the occasional fish picture- I was excited to FINALLY be out fishing today and I had to post this picture. A buddy and I were out on the river and this was the first fish of the day. I caught his twin a few minutes later. Both fish were caught on my 3C68MXF built as a spinning rod (you can kinda see it in the picture). They hit a shad rap I custom painted

Finally got all of my grips turned. Equipement used: Drill press, wood chisel, sandpaper. Man do I need a lathe! The grips are fitted but not yet epoxied in place. The rear grip is about 16 3/4" and the foregrip is about 5 1/2".

BLNAG 8 I marbled on the guides...I know it adds additional weight, but it really ties the whole rod together.

This is a 4'6" rod I built using a fly rod top. It's a gloss brown blank and I used light brown wraps with metallic silver trim. No split grip on this little guy.
