Hello, I have a rod blank that is a little over 8 foot. the top is broken and I thought I had a replacement but it has a crack in it. I don't want to risk putting time into it and having it break. This is my friends rod that was owned by his dad and he was asking if I could fix it. Anywhere i can get a slate gray 4 foot replacement top for a L-M spiinning rod? Regards, Wes

Hello, Good thread, I am working on a reconstruction and have to cut a tip down 6 inches. What should I use to cut it?

Do any of the rod blank manufacturers have like factory seconds available or rod tips in specific configurations?

It's interesting because I am doing a light spinning rod now and when I was looking for some guidance on set up I could not really find the info I wanted. I then did some testing and ended up with 10 guides on a 7'3" blank which seemed like a lot but I guess its right on. Also first time I used up to 4 micro guides so that was a first.

Hey all, I have mostly used rod building books and other rods as well as some trial and error for guide spacing. Just wondering if there are any online set up resources I may be missing out on or what you all might be using. My current build is a 7 foot super light spin-cast so its slightly lighter than previous rods, hence kind of proceeding with caution.

Thanks for your input. Its a light spinning rod so its getting down locking threads because it just "seems better."

Is this just a personal opinion or is there a "right" way? Typically I just put the real seat threads to where I feel the rod balances the best. What do you all do?

So the only blanks I have found have been the ones posted by Matt. This is an experimental build. I am thinking the telescopic part may be more important than the spiral wrap which I have never done and not sure the synergy with a telescopic rod. Likely will be used boards with harnesses or cranks either one depending on what (type of blank) is out there.

I am looking to build a telescopic trolling rod for walleye. I was thinking of trying a spiral guide wrap design, Does anyone know of a good source for this type of blank? I have some old Lew's speed sticks but probably should find something newer lol.

Any special tips because I always use rod tip hot glue but have had them loosen up. I usually just rough up the tip and apply in excess.

I did a search on this but came up empty. Do you guys use epoxy or hot glue for your tips?

Thanks that is a very good video. Similar to what I was doing but I certainly should be able to perfect my technique now. The tricky part IS pulling bag on the inlay thread. Also much easier on the wider part of the blank.

So currently on my guides I have been doing a one thread accent about 5 wraps apart times 3. I have another custom rod where John did two threads together in the middle of the guide wrap. What I am confused about is how to get that started. Do I just cut a piece of thread with two tag ends and wrap it with the main thread or is there another way to get the second thread started and anchored?

I found I had a spool of rainbow colored thread (its vintage). Anybody ever wrap a rod with this? Would it work for a butt wrap or guides or both? Anyone have any pics of rods they have done with some of that thread? I have a couple older Lammy blanks I was going to wrap up.

It is interesting some sites have info and other don't have much. Weight probably is secondary to other factors such as frame flex and height when matching it up to the rod. I was checking out the Pac Bay catalog and I like their approach with the PDF which has a ton of info.

I have a fair amount of a variety of guides but I need to buy some more for a spinning rod. However as I am researching guides the specification information seems fairly lax. Is there someone that has good specs on their website such as guide height and weight?

So it has been a while since I wrapped anything and am getting back into it. I have a casting blank that I am wrapping for my daughter. I am doing a cross wrap with an underwrap. I marked it out more than once lol. I have an axis on the top and an axis on the bottom. It did take a bit to remember which direction to go, best way to hold the thread, whether I was wrapping up or down etc.

Depending on where you live ie if you live south you can go with a SOT, I live in the north so I have to have a sit in. I know guys who like their Natives and Jackson's are nice and some of the most stable Yaks out there. I would really at some point like to fork out for pedal drive model.

If anyone has any back issues of Rod Crafters journal I may be interested in rounding out my collection. I know Tom K has been building rods for a long time as I found his name in the 10th anniversary edition ... 1984 I think it was.

I have kayaked fished before people were kayak fishing and in some respects it led me to get more involved including rod building. Of course I will not mention the fact that part of that reasoning is based on the fact there are a couple of those custom rods at the bottom of the lake as a result of the kayak fishing I was undertaking. With that said I have not yet built any rods specifically for
