I use the SW composite and the GB Slate . They make great Fluke and blackfish rods for use in Raritan Bay.

Hello Jim, In case you don't know, this site is owned by North Fork Composites, so any blank they deem acceptable for your
need is the best blank. But, if this was 1974 I could easily suggest any blank by SKY-LINE GRAPHITE because they were cutting edge in graphite rods used on the B.A.S.S. tour of that era. I wouldn't doubt that some or all of the mandrels from those rods are still being used

Frank, Forty eight hrs, forty eight days, or forty eight yrs. don't matter as long as your going over an epoxy intended for rod building you'll have no problems.
As far as coats go, I would suggest a water resistant down filled hooded parka. More than one coat on would be uncomfortable to fish with. I'll bet the boy's down in Florida don't wear any!

On offshore rods there most likely will be a flat washer made of Viton or nylon that is between the locking nuts for the purpose of these coming loose and being able to get them apart. If you ever tried to separate these that do not have a washer between them, it is a chore.

Hi Mike, I don't have problems with any of the epoxies out there (I have them all) I was just curious as to what is different from the rest. Sounds like it would be a good pizza shop name.

Rick, As far as colors go its an open book, you just have to do a lot of test wraps to see what you like. What I like to do is look at the colors of classic cars ,the two tone paint jobs of the 1950's.

I would dispose of 10 yards off of the top of that spool and do another test wrap using a different epoxy that has better wetting properties. Check the breaking strength of your thread, if it breaks easily it may be dry rotting due to improper storage. You may have to go deeper into the spool to reach good thread.

If you want to read the decal, you'll put down a base layer. If you don't want it to be noticeable, skip the decal.

Jason, Need more info. Are these branded blanks with labels and numbers on the butts? When you say "all manner of power", do you mean blanks that could range form UL (trout) to rail rod (tuna)? Are these painted blanks (Color),graphite and or Eglass? You may want to list them on the Buy / Sell page.

I would try and talk him into cutting off the shrink tubing and replacing it with cork tape or the 3M Safety Walk tape like GLoomis did on their rods.

You have to consider resale value too! Unless you are a nationally known builder with a long waiting list that blank would be more valuable as a bare blank.

I agree with the choice of Rodgeeks blanks But, 7 ft. would be the shortest I would go. You need the arc to not only set the hook but pull the fish away from its lair.Another choice at about half the price would be GitBits Saltwater Composite blanks at 7'10". I take 10" off the top and it makes a great blackfish rod and still has plenty of flex in the top third of the blank.

After the first wax many more will follow as the wax starts to break down it will fade and cleaning will not help. For some reason the sun has a stronger effect on wax treated rods. I've seen it many times on rods that were brought in for repair work, they were faded from tip to butt all the way around and at that point waxing would no longer help. I have never used wax on any of my gear and stor
