A friend wanted a split grip TN handle rod. Didn't like the tube on the end, so I put an EVA butt grip.

I just wrap a piece of masking tape around the tube where I want to cut it, and use my DeWalt miter saw. Cuts very clean with no splintering

Thanks for the input!
Are the fiberglass blanks very “whippy”? I have never built a fiberglass rod.
Are you using tubular or solid blanks?
Thanks

I am looking for 3 blanks that are 4’ 6” (54”) long that I can use to build spinning rods for my 3 youngest grandchildren. I have looked at all the suppliers on the side panel, and no one lists that size. The blanks had a size 5 tip, and a butt diameter of of .27. Action was medium to fast.
I had bought a couple of these blanks at Mudhole about 2 years ago. They were clearance or close out

I built one when the Alabama rigs first became known. Used a Batson ISWB 945 blank. Fished it a lot and it worked well. When a bass hits an A Rig, they about jerk the rod out of your hand. Still have it and use it mostly in the cooler weather. A lot of guys were using their flipping sticks, and a lot of flipping sticks were broken
One thing I recommend is to put a longer grip on it. I made

20. Re: Pac Bay
Just tried it. I don’t know enough of the parameters that it requires. We are getting kits with the guides, reel seats, etc: They will not be delivered until January:
Funny thing is Pac Bay has spacing charts on that same website for their other lines, - Quickline, Traditions II, etc, but not for Arctos.
Thanks for trying Lance.

I am helping my local Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing chapter with their rod building sessions this winter. In case you don’t know, PHWFF works with disabled vets to teach them fly fishing, including fly tying and rod building.
The blanks we are getting this year are Pac Bay Arctos blanks, I have 15 participants going to build a rod
I am looking for a contact name at Pac Bay who can

22. Re: Wood Handles
I have recently built several fly rods with wood handles - Bradford pear, and birds eye maple are my go to woods..
I am woodturner, also, and after trying to finish a number of bowls, my preferred finish is BirchWood Casey Tru - Oil. it takes about 6 coat, but you get a nice gloss finish, and since it is a build up finish, you can rejuvenate it, by just putting on alight coat.

Thanks for the replies. I have usually built spilt wooden grips. This is my first full length wooden grip to try coring.
Tom, the largest Forstner bit I had is 20 mm, and I bought 20 mm arbors. Making the grip thinner is not an option for this grip. I appreciate the thought that thinner is better.
Roger, I was thinking that the rod might balance better. I am still worried about the weight.

I have been wanting to make a walnut grip for a bait casting bass rod, for awhile. I have the grip turned and finished and am ready to install the urethane cores. It is an 8" walnut grip.
I have retread the article in Rodmaker several times, and it was geared towards using exotic cork, At the end, of the article, it said to use the same techniques for wood. I am wondering that since the
