A different view. I am a fisherman first. I enjoy the sport and have fished my entire life. I became a rod builder when a friend introduced me to it. I build rods that are functional, sensitive, light, powerful and catch fish. I am also an art major and enjoy the aesthetics of a beautiful tool like a hand built rod with a simple, but well-done butt wrap. I rarely, if ever notice the "bend&qu

Cover the rod. I use the CRB tent but before that, I just rigged up some visqueen.

I've noticed that a couple of wraps that I have recently completed have a slight "yellowing" after the epoxy cures. Wondering if the epoxy is aged. I mixed up a batch and just let it dry in the cup and it definitely has a slight cast. Not perfectly clear.

When I first learned how to do what we do, I was taught to do the butt wrap last. I have always done it that way. It seems that the less I handle the rod the more the wrap stays in place. Also, it's easier to tie the guides and decide the wrap later. I am doing the fourth rod of my "rebirth" (I hadn't made any fishing rods in about 30 years but now retired) Out of curiosity, what is yo

Have 4 SJ 604. Building one now and a friend has one finished. Love the blank. I am going to order an HM 7' for my next blank. It's all because of Gary Loomis.

Unbelievable! I never intended to create such a "storm" regarding my post. I have found Mudhole to be extremely responsive and helpful with my orders. I am embarrassed that I posted the question. My apologies. Thanks to Brook and the gang at Mudhole for helping me understand the process. Happy ending.

Brook, Thanks for the quick response. I understand. I also appreciate the folks at Mudhole that I have emailed, they are very responsive to my needs. If I have a customer waiting for a rod I need to give them a different date for delivery. Spring has sprung here on Lake Erie and people are already on the lake fishing.

9. Mudhole
I have had several items from Mudhole ordered that I am still waiting for—one item order is over a month old. Am I the only person having shipping issues? I have begun placing orders with other suppliers.

Certainly a follwer of Gary. I own 3 NFC blanks and one Edge Rod. Trying to get the best performance out of my NFC blank. I agree 100%.

I'm not new to the craft but I had several years of non-building. Getting into it now that I am retired. This is my first KR type rod. As much information that's out there you'd think it wouldn't be an issue. This dialog has provided me with enough data to make a much better and more informed decision on the placement of these Fuji guides. Thanks to all. Next a "Roberts Wrap". That shou

It's a spinning rod and with KR set-up. Smaller running guides. Fascinating that there is a seemingly lack of clarity. Fuji chart for KL-H guides clearly shows 9. I am now leaning to reducing the number.

I purchased a 6' North Fork Composites blank for some great Walleye fishing here on Lake Erie. I also purchase Fuji KL-H titanium guides for this blank. According to Fuji there should be 9 guides on this 6' blank. NFC only shows 6. I assume that the Fuji guide placement is the correct placement. However, I have spent way too much money on this blank and carbon fiber handle etc. to screw it all up

Thanks. A lot of confusion regarding his status, and his relationship with NFC.

New to the forum. I recently was told by a local outfitter that Gary Loomis is not involved in NFC again. I was told that he now has a second bout with cancer. I was on the Edge Rod Facebook page and they are seemingly just moving ahead. I was given an Edge rod as a gift this week and it's a beauty. Her is my question: Are NFC and Edge still working on blanks and is Gary still involved? What is t
