Is anyone making their own rod tubes? I'm building fly rods and think a hard tube would be nice to have. I'm wanting to do something I little nice than PVC. Any ideas?

So I just finished my first build, it was a blast and learned a lot. I do have one question though I used gold silk thread, I figured it would look really nice on the dark forest green blank. I'm also a bit of a research junky, and the engineer in me needs to understand how things work before I make up my mind. So perhaps I'm on information overload at this point. So my plan is to built a 6'6"
