Is anyone making their own rod tubes? I'm building fly rods and think a hard tube would be nice to have. I'm wanting to do something I little nice than PVC. Any ideas?

So I just finished my first build, it was a blast and learned a lot. I do have one question though I used gold silk thread, I figured it would look really nice on the dark forest green blank. I read about color preserver and didn't use it, maybe not my best thought. As soon as I applied the Flex Coat the thread turned into a gold-ish brown, it still looks good, however, its not the vibrant gol

I’ll admit some of it is a mental block with the length. I wouldn’t say that I have a “perfect” role cast, but it’s pretty darn good when I can cast full speed and I’m not slowing it down to prevent over shooting and landing my fly on the opposite bank.
