I make fish attractors out of mine. I rough up the outside so the algae will grow on them and place them in my favorite spots. They work pretty well lures don’t get caught up in them like trees do.

Hey all thank you for the feedback, both of these rods where broke by tourney fishermen so I bet abuse may have played a part in their breakage. I was curious if maybe it was something I was doing wrong when wrapping. Terry they were both 7’2 blanks and I used 9 guides plus the tip top. Thank you all again for your help, I love this place! I wanted to post a question to the brain trust, I have had a couple of rods break recently and someone told me I may be using to much tension on the thread while wrapping the guides. One was a northfork and the other a MHX. One broke really close to the 2nd guide from the tip of the rod. Would putting to much tension on the thread cause this to weaken the blank and break. Thanks again for all

Jay I was coming on here to ask the same question about a good blank to use for spinnerbaits. I just bought a couple of bushido blanks for a different application and I love them. I was thinking about trying the phenix blanks out , I heard they are pretty nice blanks.

Thanks guys for all your help, I got a heck of a good deal on a couple of heavy rod blanks and I was going to make a frog rod out of one of them but the 7'11 was a little to long for what I'm used to using. I love the action and the power of the blanks and I didn't want to compromise either of these by cutting them down. I did what Tom and Roger suggested and it definitely seemed to change the po

I have a 7'11 heavy moderate fast tip rod blank , I want to cut it down and make it a 7'4 . My question is will cutting the butt end down 7 inches change the power of the rod or the tip action. Thanks for your responses. Brian

Thanks Nrom two of the rods were older G Loomis rods, they are well used for sure a lot of the paint had already been chipped off. Is there a product that I can use to completely take off the rest of the paint. Also there is a weak spot where the grip was on one of the rods, do you have any suggestions on how to repair or strengthen it. Thanks again my friends for all your suggestions. Brian

This is my first post and I was hoping to get some good advise from you guys. I have been building rods for about a year now and love it , there is nothing more therapeutic than working on a rod and thinking of nothing else. A guy in my fishing club has asked me to completely gut one of his rods and replace the handle, grip and eyes. My question and what I need help on is the blank itself, there
