Thank you gents for the help!
Just for the curiosity sake I think I'll weight the plain tip sections and guides going in, wrap them up and coat them and weight the complete tips. This should give me some idea of the added weight although the blanks obviously are different.
Cheers!

Hello Gents,
My project of building two saltwater fly rods (#9 9'0"and #12 9'0") for myself continue.
I am still pondering between two running guide options after I received the guides I ordered. I chose Pacbay Minima M4 Titanium Tiblack in size 7 for the 9wt and Recoil RSNX Black Pearls in #5 for the #12 rod.
After weighing them out of interest I got 0.13grams for the #5 Recoil

A 100W or so light bulb is a surpricingly good source for heating epoxy. It is gentle compared to flame etc so you'll not scorch anything by accident and will not stir the air either.

Thank you gents for the valuable input! I'll leave the male ferrules as they are, after all I specifically ordered these blanks unsanded and there is no play in the joints. Just to be clear these blanks are of maker A. The one with slippy finish is a Far-East made brand B and the one with uncoated male ferrules is a Far-East made brand C.
It is very likely that brand B ferrules have another fa

Hello Gents,
I've been running my friends fly only shop for over ten years now. Part of the everyday routines is handling rod breakages/'warranties'/repairs. Besides the obvious abuse I think the second most common reason for rod breakages is a breakage due to loose joint. A certain brand has a rod series with very slick transparent coating over sanded blank. This series of rods has the larges

Ok, think I am pretty set with the guide choices. I'll use Black Pearl Recoil snakes in #5 as runners, three stripping guides (a little stubborn here ;) but just checked out the condition of the first snake guide after the two strippers in my most used two handed rod and it is quite grooved (some TiCH plated heavy snake). I shoot a lot with double handers as I use shooting heads and mono runningl

Many thanks gents!
How do the titanium framed Minima 4s rate in smoothness when double hauling in relation to regular snakes or Recoils - do they vibrate and make sound?
Phil - I appreciate your good point! However if these 'full titanium' framed Minima fours offer improved corrosion resistance and are strong enough I do nor care if they actually are an alloy instead of the pure real deal.

Thanks for the tip Mr Harmon.
Have you received positive feedback from your customers who bought a SW fly rod from you with Minima 4 guides? Have many people come back wanting another with Minima 4 guides?
Cheers!

What sort of experience do people have on the new Black Pearl Recoils? Are the guides 'slippier' than the RSNXs? Does the coating wear out?
Many thanks!

Thank you Phil. I agree with the above. In my experience fly line gets slightly stuck in the Recoil tip top between the wires where they enter the tube or atleast it causes significant excess friction. Was more i

Have a couple of SW fly rod project on for myself. One is a 9wt (Bonefish, Permit, Triggerfish and Pike in the Baltic Sea) and the other a 12wt (GT, Tarpon etc). I am pondering between snake guides and PacBay Minima4 TiBlack running guides for these rods. I'd like to know your experience of the Ti Minimas in medium to heavy SW fly rods. How do they cope the salt, double hauling and knots?

Thank you gents for your input!
Any feedback or opinions regarding the guide choices I listed above? Would Minima 3 or 4 series titanium framed running guides work in this type of rod?
Cheers!

Mr Kirkman - How can the 'inner' edge of the prepreg (from which it has been adhered to the mandrel as a starting point for turning) spiral if it has been adhered straight to the mandrel? Very difficult to sand the inside of the blank as well to fully eliminate the edge - or atleast have never heard of any company doing this? I am not trying to be a smart ass here, just a very interesting topic.

In my understanding the 'bump's one feel when spinning a blank are the edges of the carbon fibre cloth. The more distinct one must be the straight initial edge of the prepreg from which it is adhered to mandrel and the second must be the 'end' of the prepreg. I my understanding the plane of the 'spine' would change if one cuts the section shorter as carbon fibre blanks are manufactured the way th

I am going to build a 12wt CFB SW fly rod for myself. It will be used for GT and Tarpon mainly. The fishing will involve a lot of blind casting big poppers and streamers for GT besides the regular search and cast type fishing - thus a lot of line shooting involved for this rod.
1. As playing these big boys is tough I was thinking of having three 'stripping' guides (maybe a 20 or 16, a 12 and 1
