The following cut/paste was posted by Thomas Thornhill in another thread, and I’m pretty sure he meant to put it here: “I've been working for over thirty years as an outwrapper. I have wrapped rods for Loomis, Lamiglas, Sage, Winston, Cabela's, Penn, Sage and many more throughout the years and all of them built on the straightest axis. For the most part when the average person buys a rod they

I’ve built 2 rods with VSS Winn EVA grips, and both have “worn out” way to quickly, in my opinion. I won’t use them again.

The tension rods help “reverse” a couple of wraps without loosing tension. Couple of things. Is your thread coming off the spool “from the bottom ? That’s helps. Are you following the correct use of the other guide screws ? (double check). If not, that will cause this. Also, positioning the guide you are wrapping in the middle of the hand wrapper, should also help.

My experience with 2 rods wrapped with size 5 kt’s. I’m a new builder, and surprisingly, had no issues handling the small guides. Because I had them, I used the orthodontic rubber bands. Would use 2 bands, doubled over, for each guide. Worked perfectly. Would cut the band as I got near it with a dental pic and scissor. Great for last second adjustments. They do come in different sizes, s

Norman, I looked in the Mudhole catalog under guide alignment, but didn’t see your wife listed. I’m a new builder, and just started wrapping a rod tonight. I use the Mudhole CRB Guide Alignment Tool, and sight up and down the blank, but will now also use the methods mentioned above. What I was curious about is: after wrapping a guide, when you go to adjust a guide slightly right/left

Marc, Will your braid to leader knot be passing through the guides on the cast, or will the knot be outside the tip/runners ? Something to consider in the equation.

Norm, Again, thank you for your response. Do you have a photo of the sk2 hidden thread/Winn grip sleeve ? (I have seen many sk2, but not with a Winn sleeve) I have several rods with a VSS16 sized seats (one is specifically a Winn), and love the feel/size. Surprising since I have larger hands, but, as you say, personal preference. This will be a pretty lightweight setup, with a Daiwa 2000 si

Thank you for your detailed response Norman, I was hoping you would chime in. All my main rods use the VSS seat uplocking, and I have never had an issue with them coming loose, though I have read others mention it. For spinning, I have 3 fingers in front of reel stem (so, reel stem between ring and pinky finger) and feel the VSS seat uplocking is the best, most comfortable option for this.

Hello everyone. I was looking to get some of the board members experience/recommendations for installing a Fuji VSS real seat on my new build. I have asked a few people already (including the techs where I purchased equipment) and have got some great advice, but was looking to hear more peoples experience installing a VSS seat. The facts:This will be a spinning rod. I have a VSS 1615GB sea

Hello, Trying to find an online source for tube winding checks (or, lipsticks) with an ID of 14 or 15 mm. The only ones I found come from a company called RodCraft (sold only on @#$%& ?) with a max ID of 13mm. I have seen them on videos from "Rod Components Australia", but their online store appears to be down. And advice is appreciated. Thank you, Stu
