Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the help. You've given me a ton of suggestions to try, so I'll go through them, one by one, until I find one that works for me.
Have a wonderful day and thanks again!

I'm slowing improving my rod building skills...I'm not into all that fancy type wraps, just don't seem to have the patience to work on them, but I get a lot of enjoyment out of building basic, functional rods and then I usually give them as a gift. My younger brother loves it because every once in a while, I'll experiment with something and give him the prototype.
Ok, here's my problem, whi

I have a couple of sets started of Pro Kote...I was just wondering if it was ok to just consolidate them...they were both purchased about the same time...I was using one at school for student projects and one for my personal use. Is there any reason not to do this? Its been working fine for the ketchup bottles I keep in the 'fridge... :)
Thanks!

I've used them in a couple of builds, one for my son, the other for my brother. Both really like them. My brother, a heavy duty bass fisherman, was fishing a tournament a couple of weeks ago and was using the rod I built for him. His partner really liked the rod and was trying to get him to sell it. Made me feel warm and fuzzy inside! :)
...brother was smart enough to decline! LOL

I purchased model HKS-4 a while ago and I'm about to start building a rod that I'd like to use this handle on. Still being a Newbie, I'm kind of confused what is the best way to install the end cap plug. I've seen one video on Get Bit where the end cap actually fits into the hollow of the rod. That's not going to work in this case, the plug is larger than the rod.
I have a couple of thoug

I was in your shoes a couple of years ago...all I can say is..go for it! There's a ton of resources out there for you...many youtube videos...The Mudhole has some really good ones and the people are great to work with. I wouldn't waste a lot of money with the wrapper...you can get or make a simple one that will do the job for you. As for the kits, they are good quality.
My one suggestion

10. rod suggestions
I bought my kids the same reel for the holidays a few years ago...it was a BOGO offer that was too good to pass up. Looking through their rooms the other day, I noticed they are still in their boxes. When I asked them about it, they both said they were waiting on me to build them rods for those reels. The question is, what would be good matches for their uses.
The reels in question are the

I'm new to the obsession myself, having started wrapping about 6 months ago. I started bt watching youtube videos to get a feel for what's involved, then I reached out to a local rod builder to see if he could show me the ropes. Really great guy and went through everything I needed to know. Right around Christmas, one of the vendors to the right was having a 10% off sale so I called them and e

Brett,
Since you've decided to go with a power wrapper, have you looked for a used one? When I was looking a few months ago I ran across a few that seemed to be decent deals, They are out there you just have to be patient.
Good luck,

I was working in a darker basement for a while and it was really difficult...what made it easier was using one of those halogen desk lamps right over the place I was working. Made it much better. I also picked up one of those LED shop light units from Home Depot. Although the display looked promising, I wasn't sure if the brightness and the trueness of the light would cause issues. To date, I

They are great to deal with. I went to them when I wantes to start a rod building program at my school. Could not have been nicer! They even had an education discount for schools which was awesome...Really helped me out.

Just to let you know...there's a lightly used wrapper for sale on this board right now. Looks like a nice setup with some nice upgrade....ai think its a Pac Bay unit. You should check it out...
Looks like you've gotten some really good, solid advice.
Good luck!

I'm just curious...has anyone used the shrink wrap labels on their rods? If so, how did they look? After having issues keeping labels from rolling up..it would be hard to do with those.

25. Rod Selection
I'm new to the rod building community but have really enjoyed my time building the few rods I've built so far. It started as something I'd like to do and using the old adage about if you're doing something you love and get paid for it, you'll never work a day in your life...so I'm teaching a rod building class at my school during an after school program. It hasn't started yet but some of the ki

Thanks for all the info guys...I have a lot to think about. I'm going to try some of the suggestions before I head out and pick up a new printer. Hoping I can make this thing work. If not...I'll definately be talking with Larry.
Just curious...what other printer options do I have? All I'm looking to do would be some text and a graphic...I'm always scoping out @#$%& for a good deal....but w

I'm in the process of setting up an after school program rod wrapping class at my school. I'm getting better at wrapping but I'm having some issues creating custom labels for the rods. I'd like the kids.to design their own label to be put on their rods. I have no problem creating the labels but am having some issues with keeping them to stick. I've tried smaller 3/8" and 1" labels w
