No worries! Nothing tournament related. I just want a shorter fly rod for bass/smaller pike for personal use. Gets heavy on the arms throwing around a 9-9'6" ft 9wt fly rod.

Hello everyone! I'm looking to build a fly rod. I seen a Ross flystik the other day in a 7'11" and it wasn't something I seen before as it was a 10wt rod. I'm looking for someone who might have a 7'6-7'11" 8-10wt fly rod blank or know of someone who manufactures them? Anything will help! Thanks

In the process of stripping a fenwick rod someone made. They had it as a fly rod but I'm sure this blank was originally a spinning rod. But I took off the eyes and all the old wraps yet I have some residue of some sorts where the old wraps were and I tired getting some off and I got a little but now I lost the shine of the original rod and was wondering if there is something I could coat the rod

So I just finished wrapping the flags on the butt end of my rod. And I've tried numerous times to try and close off the whole design to just show the flags but I cant seem to get it to close evenly. My first one and I'm out of ideas ???? I'd appreciate any tips or advice!

I live in Minnesota and the temperature is starting to fluctuate now. I see mudhole has a tent type structure with little heaters that they sell and I think you can get a package deal with one included. Keeps the temp steady. I'm thinking about getting one myself. Hope this helps

I've used a blow dryer or a heat gun on low and rotated while pulling off each piece. Didn't do any damage but I would go slow as you dont want to have your blank get hot and split into pieces and splinter in the handle.

I use color preserver to manipulate the feathers to how I want them on my builds. They do look pretty slick along some snake skin on a rod!

So I got my rods in today. The tips of each rods have a slight bow to them. Nothing huge but still noticable when looking straight down the tip. Is there a way to somehow straighten these?

I'm looking to build a few fly rods. I'm looking at a F793-2 7'9" 3wt 2pc Fly Blank and a F908-2 9' 8wt 2pc Fly Blank both by Rainshadow. The 8 wt I plan on using for a pike build. Does anyone know anything about these blanks? As far as reliability?

I have a nice Fenwick SP681 that i want to rebuild that I got awhile back. It has 4 eyes and the tip top. The eyes appear to be what fenwick used as they all have the white and grey inside the eyes. My question is does anyone know the proper spacing for this rod and how any eyes it should have? 4 seems kind of odd to me and when I test it out it appears that it isn't flexing correctly under load.

Looking at getting a new dryer for my rods and I can't decide what one would be best to buy. I have a 40 rpm now and I want something a little slower and have the option of a 12 or 16 rpm motor. I'm using flex coat high build on my rods. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently acquired a nice fenwick blank that I plan to build. It is a SP 782 F in a brown color. Does anyone have any info as to how old it is and any technical details about it? Such as action? Any information would be appreciated!

Do you think coating it in color preserver would help? I also use flex coat with uv protection.

Has anyone ever tired to inlay a piece of fish skin on a rod? I have wanted to try it. I'm assuming it's almost the same as inlaying snake skin. And has anyone tried to inlay flower pedals as something different?

Is it possible to airbrush the entire blank? I'm sure prepping the blank would need to be done.

Yes, but would it hold up to the elements (ie chipping) or would you use a thin cover of clearcoat.

Has anyone airbrushed blanks before? I was thinking of using a air brush from like harbor freight or a craft store but I want to be sure it will stick without chipping.

Has anyone ever tried using skin from a fish for a rod inlay? I have a pretty good guess on how it would work but I haven't seen anything like it done before. Any suggestions? I have done snake skin plenty of times and feather inlays.
