If you're referring to the type of line, Braid may be used even though they only list test weights for mono. If you have any questions e-mail Rod Geeks, I find they are very responsive. Bill

Thanks for the feedback. All of my surf rods will be spinning and not casting. Good idea with the emory cloth over a dowel.

Folks, I recently built an 11' surf rod and did not use underwraps and a fellow building said I was brave for not using underwraps. What are your thoughts on using underwraps for surf builds? I have more surf rods to build for my self and would like you opinions. Will be using either Single Foot or Double foot guides on the rods. Probably doubles on the rod rate 2-5 oz and singles on t

I recently built my first Surf Rod (second overall) so take this with a grain if salt. I used the Rod Geeks SRF110C3 which is MH MF & M M, comes with one butt section an two tips. I was using the MH/MF section with the following guides. Fuji KWSG 30J, 20J, 12J & 8J(3). I used the rod at the Cape Cod Canal and it cast well and was able to handle fish up to 30#s in a strong current.

I'm new to rod building and want to build a few surf rods. I'm fairly certain I want to use Fuji KW & KL & KTs. I was wondering if you folks buys the guides as you need them for a specific rod or buy a bunch to have on hand for future builds. I will only be building rods for myself so I don't want to amass a huge supply / inventory of guides. Does it make sense to buy extra guides
