Fiberglass on the other hand is a bit stiffer as the temperature drops. You can use carnuba wax on guides to help with the freezing

I've collected data on numerous ice fishing rod blanks and amassed them in a single database to share with other builders. The database provides a quantitative means to compare ice rod blanks based on their dimensions which directly relates to strength/stiffness per inch of blank length. Blanks are classified by material, and material/power. There is also a section with links to ice blank supplie

you should be able to inlay dried flowers...people preserve flowers in epoxy all the time. Do a quick google search of epoxy preserved flowers. Find a flower that holds color well after being dried.

Their quiverstick blank is a better option if you want to stick with carbon CIB-32UL-MHX Just sand the blank you have...its much easier than you would think. Chuck it up in a drill that's clamped to a workbench and have it it. Start out sanding toward the tip with 200 grit (you can go heavier once you get used to it) paper, measure often with a caliper, and have fun. You're not building a true

If he wants a good finesse walleye blank go with the MHX quiverstick - very, very light and sensitive with an extra fast action and will handle up to about a 1/8oz jig with with decent control If you want a little heavier power look into the graphite extreme taper blanks that SDI offers This blank has a ton of backbone, great sensitivity and a fast action - excellent all around walleye blank w

I figured it'd be helpful if I shared how I develop new blanks, baseline the final version, and create a repeatable guide for building duplicate custom blanks. I call this process profiling an ice blank. Materials needed: Ruler or tape measure Caliper (digital or dial type will work) Pen and paper Process: Lay your ruler or taper measure parallel to the rod blank with the 1" sect

Its been done quite a bit for ice rods HT Still fish Someone, maybe on here, made a fancy line in ice rod with a roller guide mounted on the butt which transitioned the line from a fly reel to the rod blank - it was quite crafty

high build, lay the 1st coat on heavy with butt to tip strokes of the brush, 2nd coat goes on thin - it'll level out every time

34 and 48" extreme tapers from Sportsmans direct are great hole hoping rods with limber tips for visual strike detection...if not soft enough just sand them down further. spring bobbers change jigging action - sometimes for the worse

Bruce the flat tip is similar to a 13 fishing Tickle Stick - and functions similar to having a spring bobber tip without using a spring bobber. You get the heavy backbone and very light tip power. The naked fiberglass blanks are a big plus as it will greatly cut down on the time required to sand the factory finish down when prepping for other colors

I just saw that SDI has released their flat tipped 'glass blanks and is also offering their extreme taper 'glass blanks w/o paint. Has anyone else seen or heard of new ice blanks to be released this year?

DNA with bitrex will be cleaner than DNA with methyl additives....bitrex is also nontoxic, it just tastes terrible. You call tell the difference by smelling them - bitrex has a nasty bitter smell

make sure your rinse the soap and water very well I use ispoproply to clean before painting and soap and water (baby wipes) after painting. If you can get it, 100% pure anhydrous alcohol works amazingly well to clean up. The denaturants are usually what prevents ethanol from working as well as xylene. Anhydrous evaporates extremely fast and easily so it tends to leave no trace residue

you can also mix cork or saw dust with the elmers product before applying to damaged areas - it seems to help toughen the elmers up

they're ground pultrusions of fiber glass or carbon - most are actually built in the exact same process used to construct mandrels which open water rods are built on. Many of the "custom" ice blanks which are American sourced are made by Lynco Grinding who also makes mandrels for several open water companies.

Take a look here... 9.5 minima spinning seat on a .15" blank - I've put them on a .125" blank as well. 0 problems I glue the cork foregrip on first, then build up a very small tape arbor, coat with ProPaste and slide the top half of the seat into place. The barrel uses 2 small tape arbors and ProPaste with a tiny cork butt. I've built several minima spinning seats onto ice rods
