You need some more info here. What type of presentation is going to be used with this rod? I spend a few hundred hours a year chasing musky and another substantial amount building musky rods for myself and others. We throw everything from 1.5oz bucktails or buzzbaits to 16oz rubber baits. Obviously this is going to require different blanks in order to do this comfortably for extended periods

I've built a heap of musky rods with KW's. 2 of my personal rods run KW SiC gunsmoke and are paired with Tranx 500's. They both perform exceptionally well. The size 20 is plenty high to pair with the 500s. That being said, the MN will work as well. I typically use the MN tip with SiC or Alconite rings depending what frame I'm using. I like having the tang on the tip. If you're not buildi

Have you contacted them to find out the issue? I've never had a problem and the one time they had an issue with my order they called me within an hour of me placing it.

Check out the Bushido 3k blanks. Only 8'6" but I'm sure they could be extended.

I agree Herb. It's great and really helpful. Perfect time to pick up odds and ends and take advantage of the offer. Thanks Mudhole

The original design for that idea came from a company called outdoor grips. They have been popular with musky guys for a few years now. Typically i have seen the stand alone version placed on the foregrip. I have no experience with the actual reel seat but the original version was outstanding for retrieving big baits whether it was big hard pulling bucktails being burned in or rip/pause retrie

I have put them on bass and walleye rods and everyone loves them. I have a few of them out there on musky rods also. One of the musky guys that puts in a lot of hours wore out his fore grip in one season. The outer layer started to peel away from the core. Still usable but we won't be using the Winn grips on his stuff any more. I think a lot of it just depends on the person and how much torq

Chuck I have used the silicone ones a few times from MH. They stretch a decent amount, clean up easy and look good.

I know Spencer I was just curious if you have found any that have the tip speed that's typically desired for this kind of fishing. I am waiting on a few pictures of a couple blanks under load. I am leaning towards MH after speaking with a few friends that have a ton of walleye experience on erie and the Detroit, st clair area. Thanks again.

Thanks Spencer, Brian, Herb. Spencer I talked with him about that presentation and he'd like to stick with a spinning set up. What MH blanks are you running that you like? I would think building one as a spinning setup would get very similar results. Brian the Eternity blanks are great. There are a lot of options for me in that 1/4-5/8range. My main concern is the heavier weight taking

Hey guys, I have someone wanting a jigging rod for the Larry. He regularly uses 1oz-1.5oz of weight in the current up there. Normally I would reach for the IMMS62XF but he prefers a longer rod. Has anyone built the RodGeeks C4610MXF and used it for jigging? Or perhaps the St. Croix counter part of this blank? I really enjoy building on RG products so would love to build on this blank

Chris it's hard to find large tube small ring tops to accommodate musky rods. Roger and Spencer are both right on. I haven't found a noticeable difference in performance in any of my musky rods using size 8 to the tip. I never like the look of a tip top thats a bigger ring then my running guides so i typically use an 8 to the tip. When i run some of the smaller low profile reels i go with Spe

I have read a bit about guys finishing the kr guide train with minimas. on the 16h - 8h - 5.5m - 5kt guide train are the kts replaced if I wanted to replace the kt's with minima to reduce weight and cost am I correct in thinking I want the F frame minimas since they are the same height as the kts?

Brian you could check with Thorne Bros. Their predator blanks are in fact LT blanks that are painted to their color. I'm hoping Rodgeeks will add some of the SC4 blanks to their musky lineup, that would be great. As far as I know Mudhole is the only one that still has any of the LT musky blanks left but I could be wrong. Herb I have to respectfully disagree here. There is definitely a

If you're looking for something comparable to the LT and Legend Elite I do not think you will find it in your budget. The Rodgeeks blanks are comparable to the SCII material in the Premier and Mojos. They are hands down the nicest blank I've found in that price range and I really enjoy fishing with them. The TI blank is a step down from these IMO but still makes a nice rod. I wouldn't be dete

Hey Brian, I just checked out that blank and you're right. That seems extremely light for a rod rated up to 8. I haven't built any musky rods on that blank. I've built quite a few on the Rodgeeks musky blanks with nothing but great things to say about them. Tackle Industries sells a decent blank in the same price range as Arctos. I haven't built any of my musky builds with micros or sin

You just use the pilot bit to get to your ID to the smallest measurement you need. Presumably the tip end of the grip. Ream the rest of the way. It's a time saver and is way easier then try to power ream all that material out..

The MKY86XH with a few an inch or two off the tip is a fantastic big rubber rod. You would have to extend it to get it to the length you'd like but you'd be happy with it. The predator blanks from thorne bros are outstanding but definitely pricey. TI XXH will get the job done and won't break the bank. Chaos Tackle shock and awe is probably considered the best bang for the money when tos

John thats a great blank. I have built probably a dozen of them for casting rods for musky. However, if i were building a sucker rod, I'd probably go with a rodgeeks SG711XXH. The blended material handles the brutal hooksets of sucker fishing way better IMO. Sucker fishing for musky is absolutely brutal on gear all things considered. When you pair freezing temps with the hardest possible

It really depends what kind of rod holders he is using. I build a lot of muskie rods for trolling and the Down Easts and other claw style holders are popular with us and having a trigger on a trolling rod is a huge PIA. I usually just ask what they prefer. Typically the answer is a spinning seat. I go with an 18 or 20 seat. A size 30 reel will work fine in those seats. If he's using p

Tackle Industries makes a 9' 1 pc in XH and XXH. They are inexpensive and decent blank for the money. Thorne Bros Predator blanks are fantastic but I can't find them on the site anymore. You'd have to call. The 8'6 Rodgeeks blanks are outstanding blanks and could easily be extended. I've built several TI and several Rodgeeks blanks for myself and others. The 8'6" rodgeeks is pref
