Exactly Bill. I got lucky. Printer was brand new. Still in box with original packing. Hopefully ink will be around for a while. Seems the alps cartridges are more readily available.

Because Powis isn't making the printer anymore and ink is getting harder and harder to find. Plus the Powis inks are only metallic.

Just picked up a Foilfast printer for $100.00. Does anyone know if there is a way to get the alps ink to work with it? I believe alps made this printer for Powis Parker. Thanks!

Thanks Lance! I was just looking for a starting point. I've not built any rods this heavy. Building this one for beach vacations. Figured I might as well fish if I'm going to have to go sit in the hot sun at the beach. All I was saying above is that I have to order all of my supplies and it can get quite expensive to have to ship back and forth if somethings not right. Was trying to minimiz

Thank you all for the suggestions. Would be a lot easier if I had a rod building shop close.

Roger,
Is there a DC motor that you know of that will fit on the Renzetti motor mount without having to machine a different mounting bracket?

Thank you all for the info.
Couldn't I just set this up as a Sole Proprietorship? I'm not doing this to try and make living at it. I just enjoy doing it. Give me all the downer alerts you like I won't be discouraged. This gentleman sought me out after showing some builds I did. So, evidently he saw something he liked in my work. When I asked him what his budget was he said it really d

Wanted to see what the typical markup is from some of the builders here. I've got a few people wanting rods built and want to give them a fair quote. Just a basic build with no decorative wraps. Thanks all.

The reason I asked is because I've tried about every method of securing the guides on a casting blank, but the problem is when you put it under load the guides want to twist around the rod. I've been using small cable ties. 3 or 4 inches long by 2mm. You can get a 1000 pack pretty cheap. you can move them a little also. If you're going to glue them then you'll have to break them free and rep

Glenn,
What type of rod are you building? Casting, Spinning, or Fly?

Thank all.
Chris,
Yes. That's what I'm finding out with all the research I've done. Not much to be found on them unless you send it to Japan.

I just purchased an Alps printer for making decals for my rods. Does anyone have any tips and pointers for printing and applying the decals to the blank? Thanks for the input.

I just purchased a Powis Parker foilfast p21x printer for making decals. I found, what I figured was a good deal on a working machine. Does anyone have any experience with them? Can you use the Alps Cartridges in the Powis printer? Will it work with windows 10 or will I need to install a Windows xp virtual machine? Thanks for all the help.

Thanks for all the feedback! I'll just keep practicing. It does seem a little more difficult for me doing it with metallic threads.

20. Decorative Wraps
When doing decorative wraps, I've seen people wrap multiple threads at the same time. Is there a trick to keeping the threads from crossing over each other? Other than just being careful.

Just a side note from my experience. I have a new laptop with a 4k screen running windows 10. When I tried to install VW per the instructions for windows 7 and 8 I kept getting a Runtime 6 error Overflow. I tried it over and over but with the same results. My thinking was it just wouldn't work with windows 10 so I installed a xp virtual machine. Installed the software and still got the same

Gabriele, why do you have to wait 24 hours? I waited 21, and I was in a warm environment? Just curious.

I was using the small medicine cups and didn't have any issues the first 2 coats and did the same thing on those 2 coats with no issues. I'm just thinking the finish had set too much and was too smooth for the other coat to adhere to. Is this possible?

Thanks Tom. I've never heard of Denatured alcohol having fragrances in it. Not saying that it doesn't, but it sure doesn't smell like it. I see people on here all the time talking about wiping down the previous coat of finish after drying to remove any oils from your fingers that may have gotten on there. Wouldn't this cause the same issue? I also see people that have thinned their finish wi

27. Rod Finish Issue
Having a finish issue on my most recent build. I have been applying multiple thin coats of finish to get my end results. Using ProKote. On the last and final coat I applied as usual. I cleaned my mixing cup with denatured alcohol and mixed as usual. Equal proportions of both. The issue is that after I applied the last coat I rechecked everything and all looked good. I let dry overnight. W

Thanks Ron! I definitely see the advantage of having it. Just curious how to make the transition as neat as possible. I was assuming some grinding is what it would take. Thanks for your time.

Roger,
Seems like you would need to grind the shoulder width down too. Seems like when you reach the very end of the arrowhead the thread wants to gap for two reasons. It's going from the larger width to the smaller width, plus you can never get that last wrap at the end before it falls off. Sorry, I just don't know how else to describe it. Still interested in that DC motor for my renzett
