Larry Tobin at LRT Group is one great reason to buy this printer He is very responsive and helpful with specific help not just about the printer and software but specifically in the rod building application I have the Pearlabel360 (I believe the model before the printer you mention) and love it. Graphics is a true benefit over the p-touch I agree with D Grundvig about Rod Geeks factory labels

I built a rod for a Cabo 60 and used a DPSD-22 I chose the reel seat for comfort in hand not to fit the reel The reel seat is glued straight on the bank but with the last turn to tighten the reel to the reel seat, the reel would go slightly askew and no longer line up with the guides This is the only reel I've had such an issue with I solved the problem by grinding the reel foot, every so sli

I think Tom said this somewhere paraphrasing of course " . .you learn more about construction by de-constructing . ." broken rods are easy and free or cheap to come by - ask your Party boat/Charter captains and local tackle shops and thrift stores they are the perfect place to experiment and learn what is too much heat I use heat gun on low and when rod is precious I place my hand

I just checked I have an 11" piece left over, it has an imperfection that might sand out depending on shape you want and I have a spit grip set glued up with black trim bands where are you?

improvise - eva is very easy to cut, shape and sand a drill with 3/8" tube or threaded rod from local hardware store and improvised simple support on the other end and you're in business

Change search to "All Dates" . . . plenty of info on this board no such thing as a spinning Spiral/Acid wrap . . personally I use the simple spiral . . . 1st guide (from reel to rod tip) and 3rd guide 180 degree with the 2nd guide being a bumper guide that just keeps line off the blank

Mark KR GPS is what I'd use as a starting point for 15-20lb braid but my experience is with spinning not conventional

sounds like you are using the GPS for the New Concept system The KR GPS asks for rod length reel size and line etc. Then recommends reduction train guides and provides location

don't forget to consider the blank color (or paint or silver tape) under the wrap

I try and match but if match isn't available no harm in going one size bigger . . going smaller of course makes little sense then you might as well down size the runners too

thanks for all the replies small zip ties over the masking tape seems to make the most sense to me

What is the best way to attach guides for test casting? Feels like masking tape on a tuna spinning rod cast wouldn't be strong enough . . 60lb braid to 60-80 leader and 3 to 8oz lures

Re: Thread color Posted by: Jim Ising (---.dyn.centurytel.net) Date: December 18, 2018 12:53PM I have experimented with auto store silver pinstriping material (1/4" wide) under Fuji Ultra POLY to avoid the black blank showing through the thread (which will become translucent with finish). The results can be pretty dramatic with the silver making the translucent top color almost glow wit

Mike, I purchased a shop smith long before I got into rod building . . but I am glad I have it. The only chuck I use (for turning rod handles) is the basic chuck that holds drill bits. a 3/8" mandrel (or smaller 1/4" if building smaller rods) and a ball bearing live tail stock is all you need. The hollow head or tail stock mentioned by Roger on conventional lathes, I believe is need

Visual Wraps book from Bill Vivona and if you are in the tri-state area attend one of the NERBs gatherings. Best way to get all your questions answered and hands on guidance.

Is the cost of braid in the long run that material? I feel like I go through much more mono each season and won't use anything but my favorites (and mono is getting more expensive each year) - but I haven't replace the braid on my reels for years and transfer it to new reels. I mostly use braid as a backing or straight braid with a short top shot of floro and don't fish where abrasion is a majo

Fuji (Anglers Resources) is what I used in the beginning (and still use) - their guides have a great reputation and the guide placement software provides a great place to start for guide location on the rod (or end - my test casting usually doesn't come up with a significantly better position)

I have used permagloss as a first (2nd or 3rd coat) and then put epoxy on top (lost patients building up 10+ coats) to get the look we all know

I started with the Flexcoat hand wrapper Matthew recommended - I bought a start up kit from mudhole - the Flexcoat video that came with the kit "how we do it" was very interesting as it showed how to build a rod with almost no tools and also how manufacturers did it with more investment in tools . . . .

I found two of these is perfect for me - the drawers are a bonus and I'd be hard pressed to build something myself half as good for 2/3's the price - the only extra work I did beyond assembly was epoxy the draw pulls and reinforce the shelf Home | Tool Storage | Workbenches | 60 in. 4 Drawer Hardwood Workbench Windsor Design® 62603 60 in. 4 Drawer Hardwood Workbench

if you have the room and the need for any other woodworking machines I would look at used shop smith 5 in 1 machines long before I started rod building I purchased a shop smith 5 in one machine - the lathe was the last thing I thought I needed but it turned out to be the most enjoyable now that I build rods the lathe handles all types of handle work with ease and the horizontal boring feature i

Ken, I find the brand/make of mono can change/improve things - in 20lb and under ( I don't use heavier on spinning outfits so I can't provide experience for 30#) I find Momoi Hi-catch or Izorline XXX cast much better with rapid choke guide trains than other mono I've tried.
