To go with my last post, does anyone have links to videos showing the steps of mating a blank to one of these handles? I pulled the trigger on this one [] does anyone know what this handle uses to fit the blank to the handle...? Thanks!

My next need for guidance is fitting a blank to whichever handle I get. I'll definitely be getting a handle that allows me to fit different blanks to the handle since three initial one I plan on using won't be the one I intend on keeping there. What are my options and what's the easiest way to adapt an existing rod cut down to fit a handle...? Looking ahead, I'd like to build a custom rod: what k

Thanks for uploading those John, definitely old school, but I'm looking for a grip witha lower seat height.

John, could you post a picture of the ones you have? I tried a Google image search and didn't come up with anything. The only one I've seen might not be what you have.

Hey all, I picked up a Megabass Pagani Lotus for a song and I want to put it on an old school pistol grip rod. However, I'd like to use a newer blank so how do I go about ensuring I pick up something that will go together well? What should I avoid? What should I look for when buying a handle since it will be second hand? I'm not looking to make a custom setup for it just yet, but that's probably

So this is what I think in like to go with, what do you guys think? Butt guide: LC6 x1 (blcag6) Bumper and runners: KB5 x3, KB4 x5 (bkbag) Tip top: BFCAT4.5 x1 (bfcat4.5) I think the black guides will look slick, and I'll probably go with straight blacks wraps for simplicity sake. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

KW 6 versus LC 6 for the stripper guide; any significant difference in line handling here, specifically when a simple spiral is in play...? I think I just might go with black stainless, which then raises the question about the wrap colour. I'm only going to be doing a single color, any suggestions? The blank isn't painted except for the labelling near the fore grip (which is a bright metallic

You're right, it sure is a lot of fun. I'm really going to enjoy this project, reviving this rod is going to be very satisfying!

I appreciate all the options gentlemen, thank you! Looks like I have some deciding to do... probably going to be budget-based at this point, but maybe not :-D We'll see. I'll keep this thread updated with my final decision and the build once I get going on it.

So, 10KW stripper, 2x 6KB (bumper and second guide), then 5KB's to the tip (probably 7 of them), and a 5.5 tip. What would be best for the tip...?

Is there a way to see what the inside diameter of the different guide sizes and materials is...? Or, for comparisons sake, are all the rings the same thickness from one size guide to the next? I have Alconite guides on my Tatula rods I can measure to get a better idea of the inside diameter of the guides. It looks like a size 10 KW, followed by a size 6 KB, then 6-7 size 5 KB's to a 5.5 tip wo

This winter, I'll have an inordinate amount of free time on my hands for the first time in eons and I want to rewrap my favourite rod, an original Helium LTA 7' MF. Just about the only thing I ever have tied onto this rod is a weightless fluke with a Steez/SV105 spool. I want to go with a lower profile guides set, but I need it to pass a 20# braid to 10# leader knot, likely an Alberto 90% of the

I don't have an issue with the sound through conventional guides, but the Recoils are so loud in comparison. When I use it, especially out on the east coast of Canada, it's very likely going to find use throwing light inline spinners for native trout. I'll be using some like Yo-Zuri Hybrid, mono, or fluoro so it shouldn't be very noisy at all. I have a couple other rods that will serve well as de

I'm more of an acoustic bass guy myself Roger, though if the line slapped and snapped the way a good bass sounds when it's being played by a pro, I'd have bigger problems than the Recoils I think...

Spencer, what I mean was the sound that the guides make with braid running through them, that goes right through me...

Norm, that's exactly the conundrum I am facing. I think if I use straight mono or fluoro I'll be fine with the recoils. But if I use braid and a leader, well...

Thanks for your input Norm, I really appreciate it! M blank is gold which is why I was wondering about the finish being damaged. If I do ever change the guides, I really love the SS Alconite's on my Tatula rods so I'd probably go with those. I have Minima's on a rod and don't particularly care for them, but I can't put my finger on why that is... I do have another rod or two that I'll be using

Thanks for the input gentlemen, I really appreciate it. I knew from the start that it would be easier to start from scratch, and I had a hunch that the blank finish alone could present issues. I may just take your advice Lynn and just use it as a trout spinning rod and a dropshot rod, then start a little search for the right blank and components for a build. I am probably going to end up putting

I picked up a GLX drop shot spinning rod (820S) a while back and I'm toying with the idea of stripping it and making it into a trout casting rod. Does anyone have any experience stripping one of these blanks? If so, when you pulled the guides off, were you able to do it without damaging the finish on the blank? If I do this, I'm going to make it a simple spiral so I'll probably be able to use the

After not having this rod in the rotation for 5 months, it's about time I tried my hand at fixing it. I'm not having any luck finding the correct size pieces of blank to use for the repair though. There's one more place I'm going to check that might pan out, bt barring that, do any of you fine gentlemen feel like digging through your stash of broken bits and pieces to see if you have something th

I don't know if I can find the same guide though, they're the ones with the blue inserts.
