Anyone know how to make a new set of EVA grips look shiny. The color is dull and I want to make it look more brilliant/shiny. Thanks.

I would say it should be moderate/medium power with at least 1 1/2 pounds lift capability and then of course you must factor in some fight/resistance from the fish & weed. I have to yank them out quick or I want get them out. I have considered bamboo. Here in Texas we have river cane which is the same thing or almost the same, but for some reason it don't know straight, it just naturally

I need a rod for horsing/yanking huge bluegill & shell cracker out of lily pads, American Lotus and other vegetation. Don't want a cane pole. I need something lightweight with the backbone to pull these slabs outs of the weeds/pads. I would prefer something two piece in the range 12- 14 foot and not a telescoping rod. There will not be a reel on it, just a tip top to tie my line. I have

Been trying for days to get in touch with Larry Tobin at Custom Labeling Systems. He don't answer the emails from the email on the web site. Has he quit supporting the rod builders, on vacation or what. Larry if you are out there send me an email. I would like to buy a printer.

I use high-build and normally go with three relatively light coats. Sometimes, if I want a more depth look I'll put several more coats on the wrap.

Thanks for the input. In the past I sanded and applied more finish. I was hoping that maybe there was an easier technique.

That's it. An open wrap where the centers remain higher than the open areas between the crosses.

Having a problem getting a level finish on my cross wraps. Specifically a chevron wrap. I leveled the rod but I still get uneven finish.

Roger, I am assuming you used a 12 volt DC or 24 volt D gear motor. What kind did you get? Can you send me a link to site?

Nice video Tom, very informative. Now I would like to know what brand lathe you have and the entire setup including the chuck. I cannot find a lathe that I like. Your lathe is exactly what I am looking for. Hope you read this and point me in the right direction. Thanks,

Hello rod builders. I need some help. I'm looking for a two-piece ultra lite 7 - 7.6' for bluegill fishing. I use only a split shot (#5) with a piece of night crawler/cricket on a # 8 hook. I use 4 - 6 lb test line with a Stradic 2000 reel. The blank needs to have a fast or extra fast tip that is a little stiff because I don't want any give in the rod when I set the hook. Any suggestions wo

At first I didn't think I was going to get a reply but now just keep it coming . I love to learn anything new especially if it involves rod building, fishing or electronics. And Don the answer is - a one piece med/heavy Shikari. Beautiful dark green blank straight as an arrow and light as a feather., I almost hate to build on it. And I still can't remember where I read that the about the wid

I am building a couple of catfish rods 7' med/hvy. I'll be using a ABU 7000 on the rods. I understand to start I''ll place the stripper guide somewhere around 16 to 22 inches from the reel and fill out the remainder of the blank with running guides. What I am having difficulty with is determining the size of the stripper guide. I also will do a static test and re-position guides as necessary

I did not know if there was an exception or not to the rule. I don't mind if it looks strange I just want it to cast better than it did.

I have a couple of old Ugly Sticks spinning rods that I use at the ocean for pompano (off the pier). They are 6' one piece rods and have the backbone I need to hoist the pomps from the water to the top of the pier. The problem is they don't' cast well and I can't get much distance with them. I have stripped off the guides and would like to put some Minimas on the rods. I am using a Penn Fierc

Thanks for all the input. The web site that featured the photos don't sell anything. But I did contact them and asked for a source. Bill you are a surfing guru. I am also considering building my grips, turn them down to the proper size and shape and try some good old fashion dye and see what happens. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Need to bore some EVA. I understand a hollow tube is used to bore EVA foam. Where can I get one and does it need to be sharpened to make it work.

I used a plain sky blue thread (it was a bright sky blue) to weave a name on a rod. The wrap was black. The NCP blue's didn't suit me. Did a test on the blue thread to see if it would become transparent or not and it did. So the reason I used a CP is I wanted to see the name in color I wove it in. Thanks Tom for you input.

After I apply my flexcoat color preserver it doesn't dry clear. There is always a milky appearance (it is very noticeable on a darker thread and looks terrible on black). What am I doing wrong? I have two bottles - one recently purchase and an older bottle. They both do the same.

Still trying to wrap my head around how the tiger wrap works. I have the RM that featured Scott's Tiger Wraps. In the photo there are 6 wraps. I would like to know what threads were used for the base wrap and the outer wrap for each of the wraps pictured. I'm not trying to copy but I just can't seem to get mine to look anything like Scott's. And his wraps are the best. Help please.

The 18-5 issue of Rodmaker refers to a inlace article in vol 18-4. Can't find it. I seen the word "inlace' mentioned in a short letter. But did not talk of its use. Someone point me in the right direction please.

Thank you for your input. Criticism however, if that's what is was, is unnecessary and rude.
