Building two, 9', four-pc, 5wt fly rods on Revelation blanks for gifts:
I was just wondering what guide sizes would be recommended. I'm unsure what knots might be passed if any. Probably start with a #10df ceramic, then (possibly) light-wire snakes.
Very appreciated, thank you!

Thanks Geoff, I'll take a look at the SB842 and the slow-pitch series. I've built quite a few laker-designated rods using MB843's, Revelation, and Immortal series MH-F blanks over the years and they work just fine. Lately though, I've been using 1/2oz blade baits with good success (10# braid/leader) and thought a more-moderate action but with the same MH power might work well. I'm on one of th

Thanks Spencer, I usually build on MB843s and MB844s too for jigging rods, just thought of trying something with a more moderate action.

Looking to build a rod for lake trout jigging (mostly 1/2 - 3/4oz. jigs) and eyeing either the Batson SP844 or Revelation RevIP70MH-SB blank. Other than price, the specs look fairly close between the two, just wondered if anyone had experience with them and might recommend one vs. the other. Many thanks - appreciated!

Mike, I'm using mostly 1/2 - 3/4oz jigheads with paddletail plastics mostly, on occasion will go to 1oz. heads.

Gentlemen, thank you all very much, very appreciated! I do not have a finished rod to make a comparison with, I recently saw a video demo of one of the JTX rods and thought it might be worth a try building if possible. Kevin, thank you for the Point Blank recommendation, I will check those out. Spencer, thank you - one of my current favorite laker jigging rods is built on a Lamiglas blank, I

Thanks Michael - I'm looking for a blank similar to a "JTX-MAG medium light", (https://jtodp.com/product/jtx-mag-med-lt/)
I've been using MB843 and MB844 type blanks for 1/2 - 1oz jigs, was curious about using a medium-light action in combination with a stronger butt though.

Interested in building a 7' (or near) mag taper medium/light power, fast-action spinning rod for lake trout jigging. Having trouble finding a blank with those specs. Thank you for the help, appreciated!

Thank you Tom and Norman, appreciated. I've been away from the bench for awhile, I'll try a test grip with some permagloss.

Making a few rods for kids -- I just wondered if there was a process for adding a coat of colorant such as glitter or color-shift powder to carbon fiber grips (using cfx grips). Use rod finish (Diamond II, etc.), mix in powder and go?
Thank you

Very basic, but functional rod wrapper. Easy to build - Thread carriage and right support slide L-R on aluminum hunting arrows, dowels could be substituted.

Thanks again Michael - I'm giving the C473MHXS Rodgeeks blank a try, I know what you mean about bumping up to a heavier power when using 3/4oz lures. I have built a couple MB843 blanks for spinning and they also work well, but they're a bit stiff tip-wise. Thanks for the Fuji guide recommendation also, I use it all the time! Appreciated

Thank you Doug, that RODgeeks blank sounds great, especially for the heavier sizes, I may give it a try!

Thank you very much, I'll check those blanks out!
Michael, I was actually looking at the Revelation popping blanks earlier, esp. the 7'6 (thinking longer casts) REVIP76M-SB. Would the REVIP70ML or REVIP76ML handle 1/2 - 3/4oz blades ok? Thanks again

Searching for a spinning blank to make fairly long casts off a dock using 1/2 - 3/4oz blade baits: target is 4 - 10lb lake trout in 4' - 8' of water. I'm leaning toward a 7' or longer blank (distance), and probably MH power, but not sure of what type of blank (MB, SJ, etc.).
Many thanks!

Glad that helped out - it does take a bit more time (maybe 20 seconds?) to get the trim thread and loop positioned, etc., small strips of 1/4" masking tape work well. I also try to position the pull-through loop so the trim thread passes around the rod beyond a full revolution (maybe 1/8" or so), then gently tighten and pull back by hand until it looks good. Two separate trim bands/c

Tape your Trim thread parallel to the blank and also a tie-off loop next to it. Start wrapping the main wrap (over the trim thread and the tie-off loop of course), and after 3-5 turns make your trim band as narrow or wide as you wish and pull through with the tie-off loop.
Trim tag ends when secured. Easy peasy and no worries about a knot coming undone.

Putting together a couple MHX DR845 downrigger rods as gifts, just wondered if anyone could recommend guide sizes and suggested spacing as I don't see any recipe listed for it. Many thanks, appreciated!
