Lots of info there but for me neither one of those baits are what I would consider a technical bait. You can pretty much pull any rod from the rod box that can handle those lure weights and be successful with either. A few things, I do not throw a spinner bait and chatterbait on the same blank in most conditions. Also, I never understood the reasoning behind throwing a spinnerbait on an XF blank,

I have been fishing a set since September on the saltwater flats and they have been flawless. Mine are the gunsmoke and believe I ran a 25 to a 12 to a 6 with size 5 runners out. Very happy with them.

Never been a big fan of the REC tops, the nicest ones I have found and use are the Snake Brand fly tops.

Both the 9" 4wt and 8'6" 4wt in the MHX Fly line are sweet spots. I feel the 8'6" is faster with about the same butt power but I have handed that 9' 4wt to all skill levels and they have thrown light streamers and nymphs and loved it. Personally I like the Cortland DT peach on it but handles the Rio Gold well too.

Typically you see length of rod +1 for number of fly guides. Size 8 stripper guide with either agate or ceramic depending on preference and then one or two transition guides like a Size 3 or Size 2 then size 1/0 single foot wire guides out. I would not run ceramics all the way out on a 2wt.

All above will work but I will say the best $40 I ever spent was a Dremel tool. I use it for guide feet, cutting blanks, and many other uses.

I can not think of a reason you need to alter the first option but as Tom said you don't really need all those sizes so if I was to change anything, it would not be adding more larger guides.

The Black Pearl REC guides are a PVD coating and I believe they are pretty durable. I have a number of friends that have them on their Loomis NRXs from the factory and I don't believe I have heard of any of them having an issue with it wearing off.

I use the Snake Brand with a Fuji Stripper. Size 12, Snake 4, Snake 2 and then Snake 1's out to a standard loop.

Michael, that seymo product is thin like water so it more like permagloss consistency.

Andrew, I see no issue with using the NIRLF-10 as a stripper. In fact when measured side by side the NIRLF-10 is the exact same height as the NIRLC-10 so there is no difference. No need to use the spinning guide. Should be a good looking stick with a single foot stripper down to single foot wire runners.

The CB928 and CB968 were specifically designed for the 10XD in mind. Honestly the CB907 will still handle it as it has incredible versatility to not only fish up but also down in crankbait sizes. Most anglers who want a dedicated 20+ footer rod use one of the CB 8 powers, those who throw a 20+ a little but fish 8XD-6XD much more tend to go with the CB907.

The MHX 4wt gets my nod and I built one that was fished on the Davidson back in December by a guy who was new to the sport. He fished it with the Rio Mainstream 4wt as that line is a 1/2 weight heavier and he did very well with it. That trip was pretty much all indicator fishing with approx 10ft-12ft leaders down to 6x. I do not have any experience with the rodgeeks but there is just something I

I am partial to the MHX Fly and fits the bill well for a number of techniques. If you go removable fighting butt my recommendation is buy an extra, they get grow legs and walk off, often.

The DS822 gets my vote and also a similar blank that many overlook is the SB812. 1/8-1/4oz shaky is great on that setup.

Phil, That spacing in the Mud Hole catalog is referring to a generic 7-9wt fly build for a 9 footer. Taylor chose size 2 to run out on his Native as a personal preference and because he mostly fishes in salt. The Native Fly kits from Mud Hole are set up with the following guides and spacing for the 908-4 Native. I have fished these with varying guide sizes from Size 1's up to Size 3's and in my

I have the MHX Blank 907-4 and run a Rio Redfish 7wt line and have been very pleased on the flats. Lots of power and pretty darn quick.

David, Good morning, Chris from Mud Hole here. We did a facebook live video on working with the exact kit not too long ago. Might not answer all your questions but you can see us work with it in real time and pass along a few tips. Here is a link to the youtube recording of the Facebook live episode.

Jeff, No problem, happy to help. Now keep in mind, you mention "faster" but when speaking about ERN that is more based on grain weight in what the rod measures out to throw. So the 5.2 means a little more than 5wt. The AA in the common cents is action angle and refers to the action ex. fast, mod-fast... etc. Anyway, I do feel the Native and the Original MHX feel very close, actual

Jeff, getting a new tip from Mud Hole is not a problem as they have tip sections for many of their fly blanks. I have fished both and find them to be very similar but the Native is lighter and in my opinion it recovers quicker. I have found that fishing a DT line or one that is a 1/2 line or so heavier helps some although I tend not to over line The Native or really any rod I fish. The Nativ

For my flippin stick in the range you are building I use one size 6 double foot and then size 5's out to the tip. Reason is I can still cast big swim baits on that power and action rod. When going to a pure punching rod I have even just run straight size 4 micros all the way out but also sometimes use one sz6 DF one sz5 SF and then sz4 all the way out.

I have used a toothpick and actually stand the rod up and put little drops in with the toothpick before putting it in the dryer to apply finish with the brush. It seem to help the epoxy run under since the rod is vertical.

Guys I have to replace a guide on a Carrot Stick. Is this guide one of the fuji concept guides with the spacing between the ring and foot? Thanks for the help.
