With my limited experience I can tell you this:
- the fewer guide sizes, the better
- for 4-5 wt. rods I normally would use size 1 snake guides as running guides and I would use a single stripping guide - size 8-10
- my favourite snake guides are light wire guides from Snake Brand by Mike McCoy and my favourite stripping guides are ALPS titanium frame guides (more traditional in shape than the

Size 6 (or 5 for that matter) will do fine, however if you plan to use the rod below freezing point, 7 might be a better idea due to the inevitable ice buildup.

Personally I hate split grips, so that leaves only one to my liking. As for color - it takes all sorts ;-)

I can't vouch for them and never used their blanks, but to the best of my knowledge are a manufacturer of good quality blanks. A 9' 11wt blank is available from them directly or on the popular website, the name of which starts with E ...

Swap the original guides for Fuji titanium-framed ones. You will not (most likely) have a problem with breaking guide feet and will not have a problem replacing any of them. If the factory spacing is ok, the new guides can be put in the same places as the original ones and the new wraps will look like the original ones (or not, if so desired ;-)).

Couldn't agree more.

Use fluorescent thread for the tip top wrap (make a fairly long one). This should do the trick.

Try steel-framed reduction guides with titanium running guides. The lighter tip will make the rod feel lighter in hand. Besides titanium running guides will not break the bank.

12. Re: Fuji K
Another important difference is availability. Availability of Fuji Y and L frame guides in various finishes and with various ceramic rings is pretty limited, while Fuji K are available in steel and titanium frames, with all the ceramic ring inserts bar basic aluminium oxide. This is also a valid point to consider ...

Cork. Period.
No! Wait!
I am actually thinking about using a carbon grip on one of my next rods, though not on fly rods. Fly is cork hands down.

The Snake Lite Wire - Black Nickel are "blackish". Maybe they will do the job if you like their guides that much (as I do).

Assuming I buy a blank from you, what shipping time would it be reasonable to expect?

The MHX 10" 4wt 4pc is still waiting for me to finish the build, but the blank itself is sweet!

For 1-oz. weights you will need a 10 to 12 weight blank. Pick one, which has fast or extra fast action. It will never be F or XF spinning-type, but it should be ok if you can live with MF or M action.

Maybe a braided leader loop (as used in fly fishing) might do the trick

Thank you all for your comments.
Now to clarify a few points:
- I simply had no opportunity to use the rod during the past couple of years
- I am not an expert caster but I do manage and yes - I double-haul if necessary
- I do not expect an improvement in landing fish, or hooking them at all for that matter
- I was simply wondering how the RX7+ blanks compare against Eternity2
Because I

29. Fly blank choice
Maybe the title of the topic is not precise enough, but so is my befuddled mind ;-)
A couple of years ago I built a fly rod on a 9' 8wt. 4-piece Batson RX7+ blank. I used the rod a few times and so far it remains a virgin in terms of landing fish. Now my question is: does it make sense to buy an Etermity 2 blank and build a rod on it instead? I have some experience with E2 fly blanks and know I

I started building rods 6-7 years ago. Barring a few exceptions I have been making rods for my private use only and that gives bias to my remarks. Many of my builds were/are on Batson blanks and I tend to use their "rod recipes", though with personal mods. I like aluminium-rubber butt caps, which add approx. 1/2 oz. in weight. Aluminium density is much lower than lead so its not a heavy
