Gossamer or Naples

I'm building an 8-weight bamboo flyrod and would like to use Pearsall silk tread for the wrappings but can't decide whether to use Gossamer or Naples.
It's a heavy rod for big fish - will the Gossamer hold up to that kind of use. Also Naples being slightly larger in diameter should be easier to wrap nicely or....?

I would appreciate some input on this.

Thanks
Peter

Peter,

Im no expert by any means but I did just finished up a re do on an old bamboo rod.

I bought my thread from Golden Witch (very nice people), I bought the "Tire" brand Japanese silk for main wrapps and gossemer Peasrsals for trim.

I do have to say I really like the gossamer Maybe its me but I found it easier to wrap with than the larger diameter most folks say the opposite.

My wrapping skills are not very efficient thus I pack thread pretty much as I go.

The only problem with the gossamer for me is the very limited colors , thats why I used the Tire brand .

The Tire brand is a very nice silk thread. Like pearsals it is "Silky" smooth with no fussys unlike the gudebrod silk which is very fussy on the spool.

Type in "Tire silk thread" on any search engine and check out the 72 colors. I think ill be using the Tire thread on my next graphite rod that ive been asking a ton of questions about building.

Hope this helps happy wrapping "John"

Peter, I only use the gossamer on guides that are intended to have invisible wraps. Naples works great for me if the wraps are to have CP. I think these threads are free of any wax and take CP well. Been my experience so far. Don
