Well capt. the Lamiglass folks were at the recent Conclave and were asked that exact question. They say that E glass was used as electrical conduit material and then used in rod making as an afterthought. S glass was produced for sporting use and would have been more popular if graphite had not come out about the same time. Enough history E glass is heavier, slower and used mostly for heavy salt water rods. S glass is more suitable for freshwater rods being lighter and stiffer. Both should be durable enough for any application and much more durable than graphite.

From what I've read the material has nothing to do with the action as that comes from the design of the blank's taper. I do have some old Fenwick rods that were made from what they called Fenglass which I believe is what they called their S Glass rods and they are much lighter than the E glass type. If I had the choice I'd go with S Glass.
