I managed to break a beautiful reel seat insert made of California Buckeye. I didn't get epoxy on the full length of the insert. I won't mention how I broke it fishing.... too embarrising to talk about... a real bonehead move I my part. My question is can I repair this insert with epoxy or other type of bonding compound and expect it to hold up? It was a clean fracture and I have removed the lower section of the reel seat with the broken piece of insert. This is on a St.Croix III 9'6wt fly rod. Input apprecitated. Re: Broken wood insert

I have used Devcon 30 minute Epoxy and wrapped the insert with nylon line, or you could use about anything to keep it under pressure overnight. The one I fixed was walnut so I couldnt even see the line.. Thanks Dave Re: Broken wood insert

Dave is correct. Properly done, the glue line will be stronger than the wood itself and should not show. Although you may have to sand and refinish. ............... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
