Has anyone ever tried to cast a chunk of cut bait on a surf rod? I'm going to build one for myself to do some catfishing. Just wondered if the blank would load up to quick and throw the bait off or not. Re: casting bait/surf rod

Jim, I really don't see a problem throwing cut bait as long as you use a rod capable of handling the weight. When you say surf rod, what length are you talking about? Kevin Re: casting bait/surf rod

Jim I use E-glass saltwater blanks to build catfish rods. 7 foot, live bait blanks, they cast fine, work great. I am building a, spiral wrap, catfish rod at this time, started it yesterday. I got the blank from Mudhole Tackle, very inexpensive. This one happens to be for me, I love to catfish. I catfish in my bassboat, so I cast once, troll a long while. I have found 7 feet is perfect for this. I catfish on lakes and rivers, I drag: cut-bait, minnows, nightcrawlers, shrimp, stink-bait, chicken livers..., depending on the location could be one of any number of baits. On this rod I am going to use a Abu-Garcia 5600 reel. I like to have the reel that is going to be used on a spiral wrap rod when I place the guides. Email me personally if you want to know more details. Bill Doherty Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
