I'm going to attempt building my first rod and was considering Cabela's SLI or the St. Croix Ultra blanks. I've read some good comments on the St. Croix blank but not the SLI. I've never used a fast rod before and was unsure about getting the St. Croix blank. If anyone has any comments on either blank I would appreciate it. Thanks Re: CAbela's SLI Blanks vs. ST.Croix Ultra

I would not call the SLI a fast blank. They are smooth casters but more of a moderate action. I think the PT series from Cabelas are their fast blanks. The SCIV is a faster action blank but as far as I know only available in matte finish. Re: CAbela's SLI Blanks vs. ST.Croix Ultra

My memory is gone. Just got my Cabelas catalog for 02 and the fast action blank is an FT. Makes sense. Re: CAbela's SLI Blanks vs. ST.Croix Ultra

I've used both Cabelas Ft and St Croix blanks for fly rods and find the Cabelas to be a nicer casting rod. The Ft's are a true fast action rod, the SCIV I would class as mod. fast. Also I like the natural matte finish on the FT's Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
