I would like to know how to conceal the tag ends on my wraps. I am cutting as close as possible to the wraps but sometimes a very small tag remains hiden until I put the Dura Gloss on then it shows like a nub and I slice it off then and apply a thin coat over. I want to make tha dissappear?
ny help is greatly appreciated.

There is one other way to do them if you are simply not able to get them cut as close as you'd like. What you are going to do is "bury" them under your wraps.

Let's say you normally put your tie-off loop in about 5, 6 or 7 turns before the end of your wrap. Instead, put it in about 10 to 15 turns before the end of your wrap. Now when you insert the end of your wrapping thread into the tie-off loop, go ahead and cut it (before you pull it through) and make sure it is short enough that it will not protrude from the wraps. In other words, cut it short enough that the end will be buried under your wrap threads once you pull the tie-off loop through.

This will require a bit more effort when pulling the tie-off loop through the wrap, but you will no longer have to worry about nubs.

Two methods come to mind in addition to what Tom suggested. I use both, or all three, depending on the job.

Make about eight wraps over the loop of mono with about four inch's tag out. Pull tag under the wrap until the tag is almost through then with holding tension on the mono give the wrap thread a quick yank to break it under the wrap before it protrudes. This can be tricky on small diameter tip sections and is hard to do with anything but "A" thread.

Another is pull the tag completely through, leaving several inch's so as to grasp easily. Pull the tag back towards the direction where it entered, spreading the wrap slightly, nip close so as to let the clipped end bury itself under the wrap. Burnish over to close the wrap. This method requires a VERY sharp thin blade to cut close.

What I do to hide these end is as follows.

1. With about 10 wraps to go I instert the Pull Thru Loop.

2. Wrap the 10 wraps, cut the thread and insert it into the Pull Loop

3. Pull the Pull Loop intil it is tight against the last wrap.

4. I Un-Twist the thread that was insterted into the Pull Loop untill the thread seperates.

5. I place my thumb nail just above the pull thru loop, on the last wrap to hold it in place.

6. Pull the Pull Loop through.

This will pull the last wrap under about 5 threads, and lay it flat, with no 'unsightly bulges.

Just how I do it.

Thanks for the info, guys! Sounds like Tom's method, along with Paul O's "unravel" method is the way for me!

With all of this incredible help available on this board, I'm finding that although I'm very very new at rodbuilding, my rods are already better, technically, than any of my factory rods. In fact, I'm now looking at factory rods and seeing all kinds of flaws!

Curse or blessing??? I used to be happy with my rods, and only started building to get certain actions that were not commonly available in a spinning rod without going custom.

Thank you VERY much, Tom Kirkman, and everyone else who contributes such awesome information to this board!
