I bought a couple of Calstar blanks about a year ago for tarpon fishing in the Gulf of Mexico...In about 20 - 40 feet of water. I don't know the numbers for them but they are (originally 6' long but cut 4" off the butt) 5'8" long and rated for 20-40lb test line. Now, I am wanting to go with a heavier rod....30-50lb. to match my Shimano TLD 25's with 40 lb. line. Will my blanks be adaquate if I cut 2" from the tip. I don't want to make it much shorter. Thanks! Re: Calstar blanks

Andrew, I would check with two of the salemen at CutRate Tackle on I-10. The two hispanic guys there are blue water fishermen and seem to know their products very well. CutRate does carry a good line of Calstar blanks. Hope this helps, Ellis Re: Calstar blanks

Try this question on the Allcoast board - they specialize in state-of-the-art saltwater tackle. [www.sport-fish-info.com]. Do you really want a rod shorter than 6 feet? Otherwise, I might suggest a Calstar Graphiter 765XL at 6.5 feet. Re: Calstar blanks

Andrew- The only 6' rod 20-40 I could find in the calstar blank list is the 660L. The other 6' blanks in this series are the 660 20-50, 660H 30-80, 660XH 40-100 and 660XXH 50-100. Calstar also has a couple of other series of rods 665 (6.5 ft.) 670 (7 ft.). Each of these series uses the same letter desinator and line class. Hope this helps.
