does anyone have any suggestions on how to repair finish on trolling rod the finish is turning white in places can it be lightly sanded and refinished with flex coat or u-40 Re: rod finish

I've never had a good experience putting new finish over the old if the old was bad. Best thing to do is remove the old stuff and start over. It's kind of like putting new paint over old peeling and cracking paint. When the old stuff comes up, so will the new. I think what you are seeing as finish turing white is actually those areas where the finish is just slightly lifting from the blank. If anyone has any better ideas I am all ears! Re: rod finish

Since you are putting a clear finish over the top of it, any discoloration is still going to show. I think you will have to do more than just light sanding, but maybe sanding or scraping all the way down to the blank. Maybe even removing all the finish on the blank between each guide where you have a problem. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
