Reminder on the name thing

I am catching a lot of flak about posters having to use their actual name on their posts. I really do not understand it. Why would anyone not want to use their actual name when expressing an opinion, asking a question or providing information. Yes, we can all guess the answer to that in many cases, but just as any magazine or newspaper with any integrity will not run letters signed "anonymous" or with a simple nickname, Rodbuilding.org will not either.

I am sorry if this upsets anyone or you decide to go elsewhere. I respect your right to refuse to post here. But requiring people to include their actual name with their posts is simply not too much to ask. We do not require registration, do not ask for addresses or phone numbers. Just the courtesy of your name and email.

As far as those who have emailed asking me how much of their name or in what form will "get them by", just use your name - the one on your driver's license or the one you sign your checks with - and you will have no problem here.

Again, very sorry if some of you don't agree with this, but until I receive a good reason why someone would not want to use their actual name behind any comments they make, our policy will stand as is. Thanks.

Thank you Tom. I'm behind you all the way. I too, have never been able to understand why ,in this sort of forum , people are reluctant to use their real name. It's embarrassing for me to E-Mail someone and have to appoligize for not knowing their name......Jim Upton

I realize that most of those who have asked me about it have been very nice and are the not the people who would cause mischief anyway. Still, it's a simple rule and should not hurt anyone. Rather, it is helpful. Thanks.

Tom - I have to be one of the guys who asks, and of cours eI have a reason. Billy 40 I have used on every site, and I'm sure everyone knows me by now. I apologize for breaking this rule, but I really have only realized it one time, when I put Billy V at the end. Other than that, BIlly 40 automatically pops up in the name field, along with my E-Mail addy, and it never even crosses my mind.

Billy V!!

Tom,
Not a problem. Consistency is a quality of character and this board, for the most part, displays that. Everyone knows me by Elrod, so if you want to address me that way it is fine, but from now on, in order to honor this board I will sign everything with both. So you guys call me whatever you want (well, how about one of the two options, HEHEHE!)
Elrod (Jon Jenkins)

Not a problem. And you are right in that anyone who has a problem with putting their name to anything they post has some issues to deal with.
