I am looking for a pair of 4 piece 9' blanks in the 5 and 7 weight that I can use one handle for both rods. I travel allot and carrying two rod tubes is a hassle. I just tried the setup and fit the 6 tip pieces and one handle in a 2.5-inch rod tube. I normally build on Scott STS and St Croix Ultra Legend blanks. I'm looking for blanks of that caliber. The 5 and 7 are my trout set up for both big water in BC and Chile. Are there any blanks that fill this bill? Options

I'm not aware of any like that which would share the same handle. I am sure that tomorrow one of the sponsors here will answer you with a definite yes or no. But you could make your own I suppose. There have been some good article articles in RodMaker recently on the subject of making multi-piece rods. You'd just have to fit the 3rd section of each rod with a sleeve type ferrule that would fit the same butt section. Quite a pain I guess but custom for sure. Re: Options Fisher Rod

I would suggest a Fisher rod because they use the Spigot ferrule system and this would be very easy to build one handle to use on both rods.. Thanks Dave Re: Options Fisher Rod

I would call Scott since their rod uses spigot ferrules and talk to one of their people about your idea. They may have done this or could have some suggestions. Re: Options Fisher Rod

I am going to go out on a limb here. I do not think you will save a lot of space with only one handle. I frequently carry both a 4 wt and a 5 wt 5 piece rod in a single tube. I put one handle up and one handle down, so the overall diameter of the tube is largely unaffected. I have a lot more trouble fitting the stripping guides in the case. You might want to use smaller or low frame stripping guides in order to lower the overall diameter of the bundle. I am not going to Chilie any time soon, (as in ever). But if I were I would want 2 complete rods for convience and as a safety precaution. It is not completely unheard of for a rod to snap at the butt right in front of the handle. There is a lot of load there due to leverage. It is an easy place to damage when moving the rod, etc. because of the weight of the reel. Drop it in the boat, etc and nick the graphite. Bingo. You can fit 2 complete rods in one relatively small tube if you work at it a little. And strippers are generally a lot larger than they have to be for good performance now anyway.
