Curious about the installation of removable fighting butts on blanks when the threaded portion goes inside the blank itself. Is this Okay. I have only built one rod with a fighting butt and the threaded insert was too big to go inside of the blank. Thanks for any replies!! Ben Re: Fighting Butts for flyrods

Dear Ben: Most fighting butts are designed to go indide the butt of the seat not the inside of the blank. Might I suggest you trim the blank at the butt for the length of the instep that butt requires. Tape the blank radially ( thats around it) and with a dremel cutoff wheel, take off only what is absolutely necessary. Your other option would be to extend the reel seat the required length to sallow for the spud of the butt to fit. Use 2 ton epoxy or rod bond for this. The last thing you want is for this to come loose and you lose it or break it. If you like Fuji seats, they make an excellent fighting butt. Attaches externally, is removable, and also serves as a double lock nut. A very serviceable seat, and able to take the abuse of fresh or saltwater applications. Available in cork or black EVA foam, from Fuji suppliers. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
