Hello everyone, have to say again and again this is a great site Thanks Tom and all you other pros for the help. Now that color combonations have been well discussed how about everyones favorite trim patterns. Im building flyrods and have only done 3or 4 turn bands on the ends using the freehand method that Tom Kirkman e mailed me. do any of you add trim bands in the middle of a wrap or combinations of trim color in numerical patters IE: 15 main wraps then 3 trim , 3 wrap, 3 trim then finish main wraps etc...or whatever? I would like to explore a bit higher detail and increase the skill a bit I always buy lots of extra thread. "Happy Wrapping" John Re: TRIM FOR FLY ROD

Sammy Mickel brought a rod by here last week and I seem to recall that he had made his inlay/trims in the center of the wraps rather than at the ends. Looked nice. ................. Re: TRIM FOR FLY ROD

John, I have done what you would like to do. It's a little time consuming and most people don't want to pay the little extra for it. I have done 3 wraps then put another 3 wraps of the same color half way up the wrap. It looks very nice. I also try to co-ordinate the trim with the feather inlays I place on the grip section, i.e. I make them the same color to add a little continuity to the total rod. Happy wrapping, Tom Re: TRIM FOR FLY ROD

I do triple single-inlays, a little tricky to get even and smooth but the result is beautiful. I seperate each inlay with one wrap. The easier way is to make three turns with the trim color and base color together. Only draw back is it gives a spiral look with a start and stop point. You can also do triple single inlays with each seperated by 3-4 threads, looks nice too, but the aforementioned shows attention to detail and a little skill. Hope this helped. If you need help on what "single-wind inlays" are there are plenty of posts if you search the archives or I could explain if you need help. Elrod Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
