Line code?

Today I inherited my first bamboo fly rod. A Heddon model 30. Nice rod but what does the line code match up to in today's lines?

It says "HCH or D". I know it has something to do with diameters in silk line but what would be a good match in a modern plastic type line? Thanks.

The D stands for a D level line. I think that matches a modern 6 wt. I think you should start with a 6 wt DT. If it feels light, maybe a 7. I expect the 6 will be the best if you are used to graphite.

a guy who knew his stuff told me that the rod i have that is rated at HDH did indeed match the modern 6 wt dt , but I haven't tried casting it with one.so I asume, that maybe if it does say HCH it is a DT 5wt?
