Ultralight Fiberglass Fly Rod Blanks

Anyone know if fiberglass fly rod blanks in 2 weight are available anywhere? I saw plenty of 3 weights around but nothing under that. I don't know if there's a mechanical/engineering reason for that or if I'm just not looking in the right place. As of now I plan to order a 3 weight but if I could find a 2 weight I'd be more inclined to go with that.

James Green can make them as light as a 1 wt in fiberglass. Mechanically fiberglass is a better material for light line fly rods but ones under 3 weight is just not popular due to it being a very small niche.

Spencer - Thanks for the lead on the Lamiglas. I ordered their 4 wt glass blank yesterday. 4 wt is my go-to size fly rod for most everything I fish for in the warm water lakes and trout up in the north country. I really like their blanks.

Same here when I CC’d my 7’ 3 weight 2 piece. Action angle around 65 which is certainly not slow but many says this blank is slow. I think many get power and action confused.

Dave - I've seen a lot of references to James Green blanks but haven't found a website or anything. Are they still being made and if so where can you get or order them from? Sorry - I'm so new at rod building that I'm still in the process of identifying who the vendors/suppliers are. I know the main ones like Mudhole, Angler's Workshop, etc., but my specialty list is still kinda short.

Thanks, Gene

Check with Marty Romeo from Deep Bend Rodworks found on Facebook of fiberglassflyrodders, he may have some James Green blanks for sale or can give you Mr. Green’s contact info.

Here are a couple more options, CTS, they can make a 2 wt in just about any length and number of pieces (there will be some limits). Steffen Brothers does make some 2/3wt blanks in shorter lengths. Like some of the other gents have stated above, J Green does make some nice 2wt blanks also.

My question would be why a 2wt, what length, and what are you going to target with it? Example, if your looking for a small stream brook trout stick, brookies will put a nice bend in a glass 3wt. One of my favorite rods for fishing them is a Steffen 6ft 2/3wt. It loads up with both a 2 and 3wt line very well.

Mudhole has them. I have a 2wt MHX I built a few years back. Also, Bingham enterprises has them down to 1wt

*Sorry Just realized you were looking for glass blanks.*
