What works best for marking graphite rods when measuring for guides etc.? I have used China markers in the past but was wondering if there is something that works better?

Sam,
I never like to put and or leave any marks on a rod.

Rather, I just use 1/8th inch wide masking tape. Easy, quick and free of marks on the rod.

Good luck

I had been using china markers. To get a mark that didn't wear off during the building process, I had to make a firm mark. Then, I would have trouble removing the mark using DNA. I then switched to 1/8" tape also and it's working just fine.

China mark residue can easily be removed using a Staedtler Mars Plastic eraser. Cleans up without marring the finish and cleans up other type of mild residue also. Been using it for 25 years.

I've always used a crayon. Works very well.
