What is the best blank / rod finish for a present-day split bamboo blank? I am more interested in ultimate protection rather than period-proper coatings such as spar varnish. In no way am I attempting to recreate a vintage rod but rather combining the old-school-charm and attributes of a split bamboo rod with modern technology guides and spacing (KR Concept, possibly only NGC).
Back to the original inquiry of blank finish, I have no experience finishing bamboo. I have been using PG for my vintage FG blanks with adequate results. PG and its equivalents are widely used and accepted by many. But is there a reason I should not use PG on bamboo? If that is the case, then what is the best? PermaGloss was originally designed as a bamboo rod blank finish. Also for wraps on bamboo rods.

I have used Birchwood Casey Tru Oil with nice results. No foul odor, easy on, one coat does not take away from the natural finish of the bamboo. Additional coats may add a little shine to the overall finish. Ray Zarychta Glastonbury, CT Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
